Benefits

Hello, I’ve been playing different roller coaster tycoon games all my life and I just wanted to know before I purchase this game from Steam, what are the benefits of playing Planet Coaster and is it any good.

Hey Brandon,

For comparison you can look at Planet Zoo, it's practically the same game, only with theme park mechanics, and the game is older.
I think looking into some youtube videos about the game could give you a better perspective.

If you like theme park games, this game is definitely something for you.

A heads up would be, that because the game is older than Planet Zoo, it contains more of the messy controls though. It's slightly harder to work with compared to Planet Zoo because of that.

Hey Brandon,

Not entirely sure what you mean by "benefits of playing Planet Coaster", but I can tell you that it's an excellent coaster and park builder. You can build huge and intricate parks and rollercoasters, not to mention customise shops and other buildings. You can get very granular with it, depending on how you like it. If you're familiar with Planet Zoo (and you are), the two games work the same way.

From what I have played here are some things that I liked from Planet Coaster that I was not able to experience either much or at all from Roller Coaster Tycoon.

• The game has a great use of a modular building system, and at first, it feels like there are not much to decorate your parks with when compared to other coaster games. However, there is a create section where you could plop in items together and save them as blueprints, and this in turn makes for a near endless amounts of customization, where if you plan something to be made, it could be done.

• There is a cool mechanic with rides I have not seen or recalled with RCT. And that rides age over time, and at first, it looks to be a bad thing as it becomes less popular. But if you are determined of that ride and are happy with its location, and never moving it, it will slowly gain a resurgence of popularity in your park and soon becomes a classic ride! This makes the rides a bit more strategic if you plan to not change the old sections of your park, as the rewards for the wait would be immense!

• The terrain tools are phenomenal in the planet series, as the ground is very flexible. Like playing with clay! You could make mountains, valleys, caves, floating islands, and even detailed sculptures provided you have the patience! The special effects you could do also allow for a lot of customization with the park's environment, making it really deep.

• The roller coaster building could be confusing at first, but they are very malleable when it comes to making precise curves and such, I had a lot of fun with the system the game has as I could finetune a track I had multiple times until I get the best ratings. Plus there are the additional Go-karts that are drivable with a cheat, as well as the gallery shooter that does turn into its own rail light gun game with targets and highscores.

• Finally, it is just a charming experience! The mascots, workers, and guests are real fun to observe and see walk around your parks, and you have this sense of trust with your guests as you grow your park, the guest facilities, and security. You could see a thief steal something and the guard giving chase for them to return the items at hand.

I loved the game for what it is, and it could hold your interest for hours on end once you have set in the groove of building your parks. The customization is the strongest point of this game as you could go wild with your imagination and plop in all of the assets needed to build your park. RCT has been out for a while, I liked 1, 2, and 3, but the later games were disappointing as they felt undercooked, especially RCT World that was released to compete with Planet Coaster. PC is a great step that filled that absent niche, and has enough quality to have it stand out on its own.

When Planet Coaster gets a hold of you, it never lets go. Game is always on my mind and I only play the Console Edition. Bought the soundtrack to listen too while driving. This is an experience with personality and that is why I love Planet Coaster so much!!
