The circle of madness

Opening another positivity thread before I have to leave for my weekly cycling 100k.

I know some will not agree. I know some just want to be emotional because they got disappointed. I know EDO didn't serve your expectations. But it matters not, because:

Mad userbase -> mad developers -> mad publishers -> mad game releases

It's the circle of madness. We get content if we add to the circle of madness. We get decent content if we start to act decent and patient. You feel the game is broken, then flood the dev center with error reports. The sheer number of error reports will keep them busy and motivated, I'll promise. Spewing hate threads in the forums, will not. Even though I believe most of the devs won't even frequent the forums, because they need to stay mentally positive and fit.

I get it. Some of the users are younger than me. Some are used to different philosophies than me. Some are outraged, and just want their sweet roll, acting like a baby just because they're getting all emotional. Rage won't change a thing, it will just fuel the circle of madness. And if you add to that circle, all you do is biting your own bottom. You cut your own flesh. That's not only unproductive, it's plain

For one moment just go into yourself and imagine why and how David Braben, would deliberately destroy his own legacy, and the one thing he dedicated his lifetime to, just to make some of you users mad? Why...the....would...he...do...that? I mean, maybe he can answer that personally, but he isn't a masochist, is he?

Don't get me wrong. I favor the Anakin way as well, because I'm often an impatient and stubborn person. I also favor progress, and that general "less talk, more do" attitude. But even I had to learn, on multiple occasions, Obi Wan is the true Master. Stay patient, and supportive to the things you love/like, and you might surprise yourself. I promise the resulting content will be thousand times better than anything you could ever have hoped for.

Leave the circle of madness. And specially to the British users, which I deem are the majority amongst ED players? Do what your culture can do best: Stay calm, and drink a cup of tea. Things will always improve if you leave that circle.

Instead of worrying about what others say or think about Odyssey on these forums why not just go play the game and enjoy yourself while letting others do their thing? It seems you really have a passion for this game, like most of us here. People simply react differently to the things they enjoy, especially when said thing isn't faring too well.

I can wager a guess, it rhymes with "care" and "boulders" ;).

Yeah, people can have opinions that differ from your own, but after working in a Manufacturing industry for 30+ years, as a QC manager, dealing with complaints as part of my job, then in the Prison Service for 7 years, dealing with inmates & at times their family members, rest assured.........there's a right way & a wrong way to air a grievance.

I think I haven't seen anyone here attacking the wardens? :)

I agree with not attacking the devs. They're grunts, they do what corporate tells them to do because they don't have a choice, other than to quit their jobs and that wouldn't help the state of the game either. If we, for the sake of argument, were to say that the performance issues were a result of poor coding. Does anybody seriously think that the individual in charge of that bit of code had any say whatsoever in the decision to publish? If so, I have a nice bit of ocean front property in Arizona I'll sell to you real cheap.

Not attacking the suits and the bean counters? That I disagree with. Their inability to speak anything other than Excel and PowerPoint coupled with their business school indoctrinated sentiment of "nothing beyond the next quarterly matters, it's a Sierra Echo Papa (Somebody Else's Problem), we just want our bonuses" IS the problem.

No, I don't think that David is even slightly interested in seeing his "baby" go down in flames, if it hadn't been for his passion to even start this seemingly hopeless (back in the day) venture, we wouldn't even HAVE this game today. But the moment they went public, he no longer owned the project. Majority share? Pfft... Sell your shares, sell your company.

That's where the fault lies. It's great short term, but it destroys legacies. Then again, what do the suits care? When the company they worked for lies in ruins, there are plenty others out there happy to hire them on to burn their companies down too. They'll take their parachute and leave. The unfortunate employees of the company won't be that lucky.

But leave the hard working grunts out of it. They had little, if anything, to do with it.
