The circle of madness

I think the big problem is when big money starts to get involved and people who really don't care about the product want a piece of the cake. Then everything starts to be about the next quarter instead of actually letting the time it takes to finish a good product take it time. I truly believe that ED:O has great potential. Unfortunately this was obviously a rushed product.

I know some will not agree. I know some just want to be emotional because they got disappointed. I know EDO didn't serve your expectations. But it matters not, because:

Mad userbase -> mad developers -> mad publishers -> mad game releases

It's the circle of madness. We get s*** content if we add to the circle of madness. We get decent content if we start to act decent and patient. You feel the game is broken, then flood the dev center with error reports. The sheer number of error reports will keep them busy and motivated, I'll promise. Spewing hate threads in the forums, will not. Even though I believe most of the devs won't even frequent the forums, because they need to stay mentally positive and fit.

I get it. Some of the users are younger than me. Some are used to different philosophies than me. Some are outraged, and just want their sweet roll, acting like a baby just because they're getting all emotional. Rage won't change a thing, it will just fuel the circle of madness. And if you add to that circle, all you do is biting your own bottom. You cut your own flesh. That's not only unproductive, it's plain stu***, unless you're a masochist.

For one moment just go into yourself and imagine why and how David Braben, would deliberately destroy his own legacy, and the one thing he dedicated his lifetime to, just to make some of you users mad? Why...the...f...would...he...do...that? I mean, maybe he can answer that personally, but he isn't a masochist, is he?

Don't get me wrong. I favor the Anakin way as well, because I'm often an impatient and stubborn person. I also favor progress, and that general "less talk, more do" attitude. But even I had to learn, on multiple occasions, Obi Wan is the true Master. Stay patient, and supportive to the things you love/like, and you might surprise yourself. I promise the resulting content will be thousand times better than anything you could ever have hoped for.

Leave the circle of madness. And specially to the British users, which I deem are the majority amongst ED players? Do what your culture can do best: Stay calm, and drink a cup of tea. Things will always improve if you leave that circle.

I agree with the thesis statement overall...although I'd probably have worded it a bit different. However, I was slightly put off by the cultural generalization/stereotype regarding the British. Almost as teeth-gritty as "Every American loves trucks, guns, country music, and cowboy boots." Best not make assumptions (however true they may seem ;-)).

It's rather like this:

Quarterly report -> impatient and ignorant stockholders -> stressed publishers -> stressed developers -> rushed and bug swamped release -> angry userbase -> impatient and ignorant stockholders still get their cash -> Quarterly report -> etc, etc, etc

What I think needs to be done is to be better at convincing the financiers/stockholders that if you want a profitable product in the long run, then you need to put out quality products. And that have to take its time. If you have a quality product then you most likely will earn more cash in the long run than a hyped up rushed release.

That's nonsense. That's not how ANY of this works. Devs are mad becasue management pushes them and forces them to release crap. Players are mad because publisher did that. It's the management/marketing that makes everyone mad, not the player base. Greed is the root cause, not players being emotional about the game they love and paid money for. You don't get bad games becasue players are mad - are you ok?

You need to check the reality you're living in as it is quite different from the one most of us share.

Another nonsense. Did Frontier got a lot of hate when they were working on Odyssey or was that overwhelming wave of support and hype? How much did it change? Do you know why devs don't frequent the forums? Because they are doing their day job that they got paid for by US with OUR money. That's why.

Some though are older than you and remember the times where companies folded after such a flop. Where they had to, BY LAW, provide a working product. Where they had to go extra mile to sort the mess by sending update disks and alike. And even in recent times you still have No Man's Sky example. Tell me, did they got a lot of LOVE AND SUPPORT after the release? What happened later?

If you're claiming you're an adult you should not struggle with the concept of money and investor obligations in business, but it seems you do.
I also favor progress, and that general "less talk, more do" attitude
And yet, for the last couple of days you've been trying to top even the whitest of knights on the forum while insulting others.. True Jedi right there. Some would call it bigotry.

You can promise nothing because your promise carries no value. If you have any history with the game you know how Power Play, Multicrew and CQC ended and how it is up to this day so WHERE is that 1000x better quality for them, eh?
Things will always improve if you leave that circle.
No, no they don't. You can get that directly from David Braben that CLEARLY stated they thought 30fps is a reasonable framerate. So, if the community would not say it isn't no one would consider that an issue, right?

And if perchance I have offended, click "report" and all is mended!

imagine being here doing silly corrections, instead of "enjoying" your favorite game , 🤣 (y) you can see that it keeps you immersed glued to the screen, tsss

proof that no one is "enjoying"* their current state.
Nah, was supercruising.
And I always got the time to correct the names of my favourite humans.

As for the OP, I don't really understand the purpose of these 'kumbaya' posts. Who are they for? The devs? I do hope they don't read the forums for their own sanity (although their PM's should). I actually find them quite patronising if I'm honest - "here child, have a pat on your back, and don't listen to those angry people you're the BEST".

FDev put out a turd (one that IS polishable with great potential), they'll get the flak they deserve, and I'm pretty sure they knew what was coming so they surely must've braced themselves for impact (and in hindsight you can almost tell by the body language during streams, in the run up to release). They know full well what the score is, and are now working towards pulling the cart out of the mud.

And when they managed that, the mood will swing towards a more positive vibe overall, and everyone will be happy forever after.

I wish them the best of luck with that as I want to play EDO - I'm not complaining about the many issues because I enjoy it, quite the opposite. But lavishing unfounded praise at this moment in time is just sending out the wrong signals in my view.
