I did discover Evochron Legacy SE, which has VR, Newtonian flight physics, multiplayer, and multiple controller compatibility! I'll let you know if it's a viable replacement.Keep EDO and EDH separate.

That actually looks pretty good! I might grab that too.I did discover Evochron Legacy SE, which has VR, Newtonian flight physics, multiplayer, and multiple controller compatibility! I'll let you know if it's a viable replacement.![]()

I will! It has a free demo if you want to take a gander for yourself, too! That really does look good! Please report back with your assessment at some point, I’m very interested in it![]()

Worth a go at least. Can't be worse than the utter tripe that is Odyssey.Evochron is cool when it comes to flight mechanics, but has almost zero content. I'm really not being hyperbolic. And the tiny bits of content there are are really not good. Like settlements needing emergency deliveries of oxygen . . . but they are on a planet with an oxygen atmosphere, so you sit on the landing pad sucking up oxygen and turning it in without moving. It's pretty bad. The mission where you shoot down asteroids is fun, but that's it. The combat scenario it has it just terrible.
The sense of scale planetside is sooo jacked. You'll be flying at low altitude at max speed, slowly drifting past trees like you're doing 6mph. It really does not have planet sized planets in any honest sense.
I put 100 hours into Evochron before coming to ED.

Fair point. Although, EDO isn't just an FPS either. Probably it's only saving grace.Knock yourself out, but it's not fit to sleep in a cardboard box in the parking lot of the league EDH is in.
I'm not gonna compare it to EDO, Evochron isn't a FPS.
o7

EDH is fine for now, but if they roll the junk planets into EDH, it's screwed too. Gotta jump before it just burns. Any port in a storm, I guess![]()
EDH has until the console launch of EDO, apparently. Then they burn it down by putting the new planet 'tech' into it.Oh yeah, forgot we have some space cactii to becoming Elite in staring at.
Yeah . . . oof. I'm hoping EDH remains separate, or it will be a thing of the past for me.
Regardless of rationale or lack thereof, the sad byproduct of it is that it has literally killed a niche playstyle & community activity. FDev really coulda just engaged a little and understood, but didn't. Maybe there's some technical reason for removing the gameplay some of us enjoyed, but given their usual radio silence - conjecture and irritation is all that's left.Eh? Running about on foot has nothing to do with planets being flatter
Planets being flatter is a side effect of the new planetary tech - whether intended or by accident.
The kinds of scale are entirely different - the "flat bit" you run around on only needs a relatively tiny space and in fact, more topography would create a better experience. Planets being "flatter" is unconnected to the "need for an environment for FPS". You're seeing connections where there aren't any.

You'd need your own Stellar Forge IIRC. Even solo mode heavily depends on the servers.
just an fyi. the stellar forge exists on the client. the galaxy is generated on demand by all of us separately. it doesn't exist as a remote database.
the servers track and store the location of non stellar objects and players.
a personal version of that is easily doable if it were designed around non aws servers.
the bigger issue with an independent setup is how manual all of the other content is. there is probably no good way to mirror something for that locally (like power play, galnet, the non-cyclic bgs changes)
I'd be completely down for an independent setup with a completely static powerplay and BGS xD
It fits my purpose and goals: hooning around in a space ship in VR with some mates. I want nothing else from the game, and was fine with all the general lack of content, broken or shallow updates, and unfixed bugs as long as that need was met. The Odyssey planetary system ensures that need cannot be met, sadly, and I'll take any option to get that back.would there be a point though? without all the manual manipulation nothing will ever happen. the game will be exactly the same day 1 as day 1000.
i think before such a hypothetical version was made, a much better bgs would have to be written to remove the need for all the manual manipulation.... give you some sense of the game's 'narrative' evolving over time.
Exactly the same, amigo. Flyin' a ship hard as possible is enough for me tooIt fits my purpose and goals: hooning around in a space ship in VR with some mates. What!! Seriously !!Ooh, you should have been around for the initial Elite: Dangerous release. Up until 2 days before release FD had commited to an off-line mode, which they abandoned in a single sentence in a newsletter... Now THOSE were the days...![]()
