Has the hysteria died down yet?

Speaking of which (Darth) .. I hope you enjoyed the Disney Star Wars Sequels as much as I didn't. Prequels gone up in estimation much? (George Lucas killed my childhood killed that one. Disney?! Really?? lol)

I've got a four year old nephew who's got more sense though, really. If he didn't like the lego plane I made him he'd smash it .. so I had to learn him that if he did that he wouldn't get another. Now - if he asks me nicely and plays my game too - with just a little mutual respect he can have as much input on making his plane as good as I can make it (addressing his concerns) no problem!

Won't - can't - fix a plane he smashed up in a tantrum though. Plus why should I bother? He'll only do it again and who needs that?
you think disney created the prequals because of bad fan reactions ?

No, they created the prequals because they knew they'd make a ton of money doing it. Fan reviews didn't factor in.

There's no equivalency there. Reviews didn't drive these movies you dont like so much.

Reviews do drive game sales. They have a very real impact and that's why game studios really care about them. Because money impacts businesses who no longer love the thing they're working on. So if you want to try and correct a business that is going off course with something you care about, you have to impact their money. Appealing to their fan-dom is a waste of time anymore.

The re-release in a decade or so will be much better... improved special effects, added scenes and they will change it so everyone will shoot each other at the same time... it will be great.. you'll see :)
Nah, in that release nobody is shooting anymore at anything they just point at each other with torches (E.T. I look at you...)

Lucas sold it more the point because he couldnt stand the trolling and was last seen "gone fishing" instead. (y)

Let's face it - whoever shot last - Solo was still pretty bad in that scene .. he never even flinched! ;)

AND he kept his gold furry dices in his pocketses! lol

No no no, you misunderstand me. If the reviews are 100% negative, Frontier won't be able to afford to fix it.

So you temper it that's all. Send a message fine but don't smash the living crap out of it. In any case my positive review is a real one, this idea of fake positive reviews is for nutters only.

Plus I knew the Force Awakens was rubbish so trust me, I know of what I speak ;)
I am sure your positive review is genuine, and I am glad you posted it. People should post honest reviews of their experience.

Fake reviews are documented elsewhere, Amazon most especially. Having said that, if FDev were willing to mass manufacture fake reviews there would probably be more of them.

I disagree about The Force Awakens. 4th best star wars movie imo. Dumb fun with excellent visual design, which is essentially what I think of the entire franchise!

Lucas didn't sell out because fans ragged on the prequals while selling out theatres each time they were released. He sold because he's old and disney was gonna try and kill him by drowning in scrooge mcduck money.

I get you want to believe that fans have this power to sway people who are not fans and who are making tons of money and what they do is a job (like most people's job) and they have other concerns other than some single property some people geek out on - but they dont nearly any of the time. The only power fans have is in how they impact sales. And basically every star wars movie (except maybe solo) did plenty well.

The i-gotta-see-it-first mentality with movies makes reviews and such less powerful. ...which works in studios favor. That's less so the case for most games. There's a drop off sure, but studios rely on those sales that happen long after release day much more than studios rely on ticket sales 3+ weeks after release. And so reviews matter, not because it hurts the feelings of anyone working at the studio, but because it hurts their numbers - and that impacts their job.

I'd rather them stay quiet an get it fixed rather than come out say sorry over an over and do nothing.
That is another problem: They ARE quiet.
The player base are left in the dark, we just get presented with facts and have to deal with it, like it or not.
Patch notes are vague at times. X received a "balance pass". Means?

And other statements are flat our wrong! "We've fixed the bug causing some members to be stuck in an Apex Taxi" Meanwhile there's still some poor soul who's been stuck there for 10 days tearing his hair out..

I would agree, people have a right to be stupid, self-pitying, reactionary and to express those views online. It's all too depressing for me.
It's difficult to know if you understand the irony of your OP and this comment...I'll assume the worst and conclude that you are completely oblivious.

While I will admit the release of Odyssey was, it's fair to say, botched. The fact that David Braben made a public apology within twenty four hours of the launch, and the fact there have been multiple patches and updates since show a determination to make things right on Frontier's part.

I have to say though I was rolling my eyes throughout the first few days. The reaction, and especially the reviews posted by people on Steam really do demonstrate how unbelievably stupid people can be. I mean, I sometimes wonder how people this thick are able to stand upright and feed themselves

As an example, the "immediate reaction" of these people was "Odyssey is broken, it's unplayable, and this is clearly what the game is, what it was intended to be, and what it always will be". All this no more than 48 hours after the launch when patches and updates were already incoming, and Frontier had acknowledged the problems.

But no, this is just what Odyssey was and clearly it was never going to be fixed, and so the thick gobby brigade posted their reviews and messages. It's quite pathetic really. Has it died down yet, as I very quickly switched off so I could read something intelligent instead :cautious:
first I stayed on the frontier, it's a good game, I just wanted to get my character out of the ship's chair, then people complained that the game was dark, for me it was good, the night is really dark, then they complained about the terrain and my gameplay didn't look bad, and finally star citzen was free for a few days then i installed it and realized i was wrong in everything, frontier seems to have a lot of difficulty working with 3d objects, the interior of the ships is sorely missed, the game has no humanization, the interior of the stations is very small and limited, there are no caves, the walking characters cannot carry things, the 2 on foot menus could be placed on clocks or the character, or could put a hand on his head to use the menu to indicates that it is a smart glass, in the end ... after playing star citzen you see that the odyssey was made thinking too small, it is sad to see such a big game be so limited in possibilities, few weapons, 1 single car and ships without interior, if they had the possibility to grab objects and carry things they would have fixed that bug of the panel that falls into the satellite when we cut it, they urgently need to hire people to model new weapons, new cars and the interior of the ships, besides they released a DLC with full price and not even 1 new ship came.

Sure .. except lacking that one desperate dark moment of horror and actual percieved jeopardy to take the edge of off the sicky sweet? By episode;

1. Qui Gon Jinn gets it through the chest while Obi Wan can only watch and something tells me that boy needs a father figure rather than a brother. Uh oh ....
2. The Tusken Raider camp.
3. Anakin you idjit !
4. Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru get deep fried.
5. I am your ... <spoiler alert>
6. So you have a twin sister. If you will not turn then perhaps she, will ... (holy cow!)

7. ALL the New Republic planets are in sight of each other?? eh? I saw the Senate building before.
8. Luke Skywalker and the blue milk sea monster! (Ok that was pretty horrific)
9. Genuinely no clue what was going on, apart from space horses.

So come on now is Odyssey, Rise of Skywalker bad?
Jeopardy wise .. I'm no Mary Sue and I've been to jail (more than once). Needs more space horses?? ;)

Apparently their art department sees a lot of outsourcing to some - much cheaper - country. And the lack of creative control and agency by the workers leads many who are skilled to jump ship. If you read the glassdoor a bit.

Plus, the people complaining that the game was dark were not complaing so much that space is now dark. They were complaining that the UI / hud overlays were dark (too dark to function since many of the holo overlays on your screen are drawn in relation to the brightness of the image below them and 0 + 0 * x == 0 .. and conversely there were things that are on the other end of the spectrum that were too bright. That made VR jarring - if you ignore the framerate too. People were having to close their eyes when jumping - etc. That's been mostly corrected with the patches but it seems like they still have some tweaking to do in that area as there are still some lighting issues leading to not just brightness problems (still some planets too bright and some things too dark) but also coloring problems (paint jobs). If it only impacted space / night view of planets, that would be a different story.

Really quiet around here now.
Has the anger vanished?
Or has everyone left who yelled so loud?
Totally understandable.
If I had bought the game for 40 bucks and then be so disappointed, I would have returned it and left by far.

The fact of the matter is that it's marketed as a complete game, otherwise it would be Early Access. As such, the game is going to be reviewed as a complete product, especially by those that are completely new to the game. I would have the same reaction if I bought a brand new game for $30 and saw broken planetary tech, bugs, crashes and poor performance, despite having well over recommended hardware. The blame is entirely on whoever called the shots to both release it unfinished, and market it as a complete product. Lack of transparency is what has killed this launch, and that is a weakness Frontier has always had.

I don't think anyone expects a game to be perfect on launch. There will be bugs, and performance won't be 100%, however the magnitude of the issues plaguing this game is a little more than teething issues and the management at Fdev deserves the flack they are receiving. Hopefully they learn from this and figure out that its not so easy to pull the wool over the customers eyes.

Disney didn't do the prequels. That was long before Disney bought Lucasfilm.
