What's your favourite ship armour?

So, while I know it's best to have a lightweight armour for better jump rankge and stuff, I'm looking for something protective and can't quite decide on the military composite/heavy duty with layered experimantal, or the reactive/heavy duty with thermal experimental. Or perhaps something I haven't thought of.

I believe it depends on which mode you play
solo/pg you just have NPC's to worry about and they tend to only use energy weapons
open is all out so will need a build to cover every all damage types

Tend to be solo. Can't be bothered to deal with gankers and stuff, so while I know most playereds don't, keeps me away form those who do.

either standard bulkheads with heayy duty or in very rare cases as above reactive surface with thermal/even resistances.

guardian shieldbooster can make a pve shieldtank out of everything, and small ships (which i fly most) win more by hrp than by bulkheads for less weight.

No guardian stuff right now and what's hrp?

Reactive Surface is generally the best for warships, if you counter its thermal weakness.

For exploration ships, Lightweight Alloy with Heavy Duty (as it still has zero mass).

I tend to use Reinforced Alloy with Lightweight for other ships, as it provides reasonable protection while still not weighing very much.

By standard I assume you mean the Lightweight ones that are already installed when you buy the ship?

If you're not into PVP I wouldn't bother tbh, shield stacking is enough vs NPCs, But you really need to unlock the delights of the guardian shield reinforcement pack and fill every empty slot with them.... nothing will ever strip the shields then, i can even ram an anaconda to death in my Dolphin before losing the last ring!

Reactive Surface w. Heavy Duty/Deep and a size 1 Thermal Resistant/Layered hull reinforcement (then any further HRPs Heavy Duty/Deep) will give you more than Thermal Resistant/Layered plus an equivalent amount of hull reinforcements.
This. Either HD the reactive, or lightweight it in certain cases.
I 3rd this. It's the only way to fly.
Reactive Armour all the way. Heavy Duty for Combat/Trade/Mining ships and lightweight for taxi/exploration.

Depends on actual role though I usually go with Reactive Kinetic Resistant or Reactive Light Weight (if jump range is an issue). AX obviously goes with Military Heavy Duty.

Honestly, you barely even need to counter the thermal weakness of reactive armor, because most thermal weapons have relatively low armor piercing in the first place. By contrast, kinetic weapons and especially missiles have relatively high armor piercing, and so are much more concerning when they do get through to your hull.

What about rails? High piercing, part thermal, most pvp ships use them...
