ANNOUNCEMENT Elite Dangerous | Odyssey: Roadmap

Nope. They have said incremental optimisations will occur over these updates. When those updates are finished, they will then concentrate on consoles which should include more optimisations.
I did read the content of the roadmap - which was why I framed the question that way as I didn't see mention of incremental updates following Update 5:
Therefore, we feel the best approach for all our Commanders will be to focus our development efforts after Update 5 on performance and the console release, and to bring our multi-platform community together once more, which will also allow us to bring even more global optimisation changes and updates to all Elite Dangerous Commanders.
Which reads to me that the console release will see 'final' optimisation on console release.

We'll have to see what is achieved in the next 3 Updates in performance, there may be huge strides between now & then.

While we are expecting to see specific and targeted performance improvements in the upcoming June updates, we are also aware that development work for console will allow for even larger performance optimisations and enhancements for PC too. Therefore, we feel the best approach for all our Commanders will be to focus our development efforts after Update 5 on performance and the console release, and to bring our multi-platform community together once more, which will also allow us to bring even more global optimisation changes and updates to all Elite Dangerous Commanders.
First of all, thanks for putting in all this effort. About the above: this may make sense from a development point of view (although starting to work on major optimizations just before a console release sounds a bit late to me).

But, this decision also has a major consequence: people with lower-end hardware (like me) will not or barely be able to enjoy all the other fixes that you release in the meantime, because of very low frame rates...

Jesus christ, why do your messages always sounds not sincere at all ? this is just pure PR talk

While we do always try to give as clear a vision for the future as possible, such as Horizons or Beyond season roadmaps, we also must accept that this alone has not hit the mark. Our community have always been the beating heart of Elite Dangerous and we take the feedback very seriously.
understanding and support as we continue to work hard to unlock the great potential of Odyssey for all Commanders

Really? this is pathetic, you seriously need to drop the PR talk once and for all 🤣.

My prepped reply for David (and other Top Brass) as I figured this post would be by him, but I hope that you can communicate the message onwards, Arf :)

Thanks for the news update and roadmap :)

FWIW, Frontier as a company have clearly been spreading their developer resources too thin for many years now. This has resulted in none of the produced games getting the full resources they needed for greatness (9/10 or 10/10 review scores), with Elite suffering the most.

Elite Dangerous is supposed to be a Game-As-A-Service with a large, dedicated, stable devteam efficiently producing update/DLC after update/DLC, yet instead it's managed like a Build-It-And-Ship-It game fighting for vital developer resources with your other in-production games.

Odyssey review scores and Frontier's share price have shown that the existing company policy is no longer tenable. The demand for more, better quality Elite content is clearly there with substantial game/expansion/ARX sales, record player numbers, and social-media activity. Maybe it's time for David to exert his authority, bring the Board Of Directors in-line, give Elite the developer resources it needs and deserves, and get Frontier making the top-quality content we know it can - company revenues and share price will follow suit.

Or put another way, if one is already struggling to keep the existing plates spinning, with some falling and smashing, then it's time to stop adding more plates.

For what it is, thanks for the roadmap. Is it too much to hope that the skybox will return to its former self, something that can be seen if flying near a black hole in Odyssey, as one of those updates? How hard can it possibly be to just flip on the switch so that the renderer behaves like it used to everywhere.

The sad fact is, no matter what FD do, there will always be a large number of people moaning.
they declared it a finished product then released it in a heavily bugged state - this is a moment where they NEED backlash so this doesn't happen again. history has proven that if they don't receive backlash, bugs will go unpatched for years and they'll think it's acceptable for future releases

Did you miss this?

I'm not happy with how Odyssey launch turned out to be, but can we stop with this catastrophist attitude?
Hurr durr ded gaem, or "this will destroy the game" and all this kind of doomer approach is not going to do anything, except make people who act like this sound like children.
It's like 5 year olds in the toystore, lying flat, banging their fists on the floor while screaming like no tomorrow. Things still won't go any faster or better in any way.
