ANNOUNCEMENT Elite Dangerous | Odyssey: Roadmap

Was this roadmap been procedural generated?

tl;dr
Many fixes and changes yet nothing specified.
They won't now the full details until the patch goes live, as they won't know how much they can squeeze into each patch until closer to release. I don't get why people think they will have detailed landscape of each patch. That's never going to happen. They've given us a broad stroke of what they have planned, expecting anything else is just foolish in my view.

Months of more Doom-Threads ahead, I guess. Or not, if people get tired.

I applaude FDs way of not worsening the situation by giving expectations they simply cannot fulfil.

Btw. I have fun with Odyssey. Off to play finding the many gems it provides.

This is not what I was expecting to see. This isn't a roadmap for me. I've seen roadmaps on other developers and it was done with much more details. So we are getting 3 updates total for now. Ok fine. That is great. But saying "fixes and improvements" is exactly what I was afraid you gonna say. You could have just said it on stream. For roadmap I was expecting something more than just this short post.

This isn’t a roadmap, it’s things that should have been in and done before launch and should be out ASAP. What are “updates and fixes”? That so vague it means anything and that’s why you wrote it that way - you’re not beholden to specifics. I mean, the fact that you’re making us wait 3 MORE weeks to share missions with friends is ridiculous in and of itself.

Furthermore, it reads as if you’re energy is going into console development after update 5 which will have some side benefits for PC, rather than polishing PC to start.

Unacceptable.

So Yeah... fleet carrier is getting powered down. I’ll be back in 6-12 months when you have a product, unless the story gets good. And maybe not even then given the recent lore/community debacles.

For what it is, thanks for the roadmap. Is it too much to hope that the skybox will return to its former self, something that can be seen if flying near a black hole in Odyssey, as one of those updates? How hard can it possibly be to just flip on the switch so that the renderer behaves like it used to everywhere.
I've never run a big release project without a rollback plan.

I don't know the legalities and lawyer talk but FD should have just rolled back to Horizons.

Greetings Commanders,

As mentioned in David’s forum post on 25th May, we would like to share our immediate roadmap for Odyssey and talk a little more about performance and improvements as we move towards the console release later this year.

We’d like to take a moment to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while we review your reports and feedback. We’ve been working hard to address critical issues - Update 2 went live yesterday, which followed Update 1, the previous 2 hotfix updates and server and stability fixes deployed in May. We have been seeing some awesome content shining through from Odyssey, but we know there’s still work to be done to make the experience as good as it can and to further address feedback.

To that end, here’s a short summary of our immediate roadmap of updates and the key focuses within them.

  • Update 3 – Thursday 10th June
    • Many improvements and fixes, including
    • Loadout UI flow changes
    • Adding earned ARX for on-foot gameplay
  • Update 4 – Thursday 17th June
    • Many improvements and fixes, including
    • Suit Livery UI flow changes
    • Codex CMDR stats
  • Update 5 – Thursday 24th June
    • Many improvements and fixes, including
    • Shared missions
    • Galaxy & system map UI updates
    • Outfitting UI updates
Each of Updates 3 to 5 will be of a similar size to Updates 1 and 2, and contain fixes and enhancements to the overall Odyssey player experience, including incremental performance issues for specific circumstances and/or system configurations.

Planetary geometry and lighting is a topic that we know is close to the hearts of many of our explorers, and is something we are looking carefully at. We will of course, continue to update you over the coming weeks as those investigations progress.

While we are expecting to see specific and targeted performance improvements in the upcoming June updates, we are also aware that development work for console will allow for even larger performance optimisations and enhancements for PC too. Therefore, we feel the best approach for all our Commanders will be to focus our development efforts after Update 5 on performance and the console release, and to bring our multi-platform community together once more, which will also allow us to bring even more global optimisation changes and updates to all Elite Dangerous Commanders.

Finally, we would also like to address the topic of communication. We are aware that many of you have been asking about greater communication, visibility and a change on how we share and update Elite Dangerous moving forward. While we do always try to give as clear a vision for the future as possible, such as Horizons or Beyond season roadmaps, we also must accept that this alone has not hit the mark. Our community have always been the beating heart of Elite Dangerous and we take the feedback very seriously. We are going to be working on new plans and initiatives that we can do to bring you even more in touch with our development progress. Starting with a monthly community update, we will highlight and share the progress that the development team have been making over that month. We will be sharing more details around this, and other initiatives, over the coming weeks.

Once again, we would like to thank you all for your patience, understanding and support as we continue to work hard to unlock the great potential of Odyssey for all Commanders.

Ready to refund all my skins dawg.

@David Braben , @Kay Ross , @Arthur Tolmie

The ONLY thing 99% players want from you now - stable 60FPS like in horizons.
And you absolutely not even give us a point about it

Guys, seriously... When i've bought Horizons - it was amazing and smooth. And you earn my trust for it.
Now you loose it. I've expected performance decrease but it's just broken.
I've played EDH 1440p x1.25 on Ultra at smooth 60 FPS ALL THE TIME!!!!
In EDO i cant even get stable 60 on 1080p NOT MATTER OF SETTINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CAN YOU JUST GIVE US STABLE 60 FPS FOR THE GOD SAKE!!!!!!!!!!!.....

Most of these fixes planned for the roadmap should have A: Either have been feedbacked from a Beta, B: Not present at all for the RELEASE of Odyssey, the game deserve its 30% positive reviews.

Performance issues are making the game absolutely unplayable for the vast majority of players, even those, like me, who have more than adequate configs to play the game above 60 fps play at around 30-20 at best in planetary conflict zones.

BoxedGM:

Slightly Salty Predictions:
  1. Roadmap (whenever it arrives) will have nothing substantial or useful to say, and will barely acknowledge the frustration felt by this community at the state of Odysee's release.
  2. The radio silence will continue.
  3. People will praise and thank F-Dev for it before and after they fail to deliver on anything it promises.

Too soon?

Thanks for the update and all the hard work of the Devs so far. I know some of the issues in game are under development and will be altered to suit and provide a much better in-game experience. I'm enjoying all that Odyssey had to offer and I only look forward to seeing the improvements. Keep listening to the players and ignore the naysayers. O7
