  • Many improvements and fixes
Too much of all the updates is hanging on this vague sentence. It gives the impression that there is so much broken and in need of fixing that even the development team doesn't know the full extent of it and a lot of the work it is just putting out fires rather than any sort of planned development.

While I understand promising performance improvements in a short time is not prudent, but what you could do is summarize what is causing the current performance issues and what is being done and the final target performance will be.

Arthur, I know you and the Community Manager Team are trying your best. Thank you again for all your efforts. ❤️

Nevertheless, the following illustrates how simply stupid the foolish and short sighted launch of Odyssey has very negatively affected the missions of some of our most beloved player groups.

Operation IDA has decided to halt all further repair operations due to bugs.

"Afternoon Everyone. We wanted to bring you good news today, but unfortunately the two bugs that are affecting our repairs have not been resolved. This week another station in progress (Donar's Oak) has been reset again, and the missing commodities we delivered to Artemis Lodge and Betancourt Base have not been returned to those stations. If you haven't already, we would greatly appreciate it if everyone upvoted the bug reports linked above. In the meantime, we will not be coordinating repairs (or tracking them), since we value your time, effort, and credits. If you would still like to haul deliveries, please feel free to do so, but we cannot guarantee station progress will not be reset until we get a confirmation from Fdev. If you are a carrier owner full of supplies and would like to off load them, please message any staff members and we will arrange to offload your carrier for you. Again, thank you for your patience. We appreciate all our haulers, traders, carrier owners, and combat pilots. We're glad to have you in Operation Ida. smiley -The Management"

The above is from the AXI discord, the announcements channel.

What do you mean "over the coming weeks" for your investigation into planetary tech? What are you talking about!? Why is there ANY investigation at all? The planetary tech was to be FINISHED, where are the gods damned ice worlds with blue skies? I swear to every god you said specifically that will be present and there has been not one planet named with those characteristics.

So it is official then that Frontier Developments has admitted Odyssey was released unfinished and they knew it would be the case for the duration of its development, up to and including what is in the real world right now, the Odyssey beta, since there are still "WEEKS" of investigation to conduct.

Game breaking DSS and camera bugs are ongoing in VR and not fixed per the issue tracker and you're going to focus on incremental performance increases by accommodating certain specs as you focus development for CONSOLE instead?

I can't play Odyssey at all regardless of performance increases of 2.8fps because I can't scan a damn thing and now the one kind of planet I want to visit DOESN'T EXIST in the entire game galaxy because you need still weeks to investigate your planetary tech after 3 or more years already.

The block of text is an absolute insult and I'm just starting to get to the point that it's so obvious folks are being alienated and ignored by FDev with the grotesque attempt at pacifying the community with bread crumbs. Unfortunately, I can't keep up the illusion on my end anymore.

Where is my game!? Where is OUR game!?

Greetings Commanders,

As mentioned in David’s forum post on 25th May, we would like to share our immediate roadmap for Odyssey and talk a little more about performance and improvements as we move towards the console release later this year.

We’d like to take a moment to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while we review your reports and feedback. We’ve been working hard to address critical issues - Update 2 went live yesterday, which followed Update 1, the previous 2 hotfix updates and server and stability fixes deployed in May. We have been seeing some awesome content shining through from Odyssey, but we know there’s still work to be done to make the experience as good as it can and to further address feedback.

To that end, here’s a short summary of our immediate roadmap of updates and the key focuses within them.

  • Update 3 – Thursday 10th June
    • Many improvements and fixes, including
    • Loadout UI flow changes
    • Adding earned ARX for on-foot gameplay
  • Update 4 – Thursday 17th June
    • Many improvements and fixes, including
    • Suit Livery UI flow changes
    • Codex CMDR stats
  • Update 5 – Thursday 24th June
    • Many improvements and fixes, including
    • Shared missions
    • Galaxy & system map UI updates
    • Outfitting UI updates
Each of Updates 3 to 5 will be of a similar size to Updates 1 and 2, and contain fixes and enhancements to the overall Odyssey player experience, including incremental performance issues for specific circumstances and/or system configurations.

Planetary geometry and lighting is a topic that we know is close to the hearts of many of our explorers, and is something we are looking carefully at. We will of course, continue to update you over the coming weeks as those investigations progress.

While we are expecting to see specific and targeted performance improvements in the upcoming June updates, we are also aware that development work for console will allow for even larger performance optimisations and enhancements for PC too. Therefore, we feel the best approach for all our Commanders will be to focus our development efforts after Update 5 on performance and the console release, and to bring our multi-platform community together once more, which will also allow us to bring even more global optimisation changes and updates to all Elite Dangerous Commanders.

Finally, we would also like to address the topic of communication. We are aware that many of you have been asking about greater communication, visibility and a change on how we share and update Elite Dangerous moving forward. While we do always try to give as clear a vision for the future as possible, such as Horizons or Beyond season roadmaps, we also must accept that this alone has not hit the mark. Our community have always been the beating heart of Elite Dangerous and we take the feedback very seriously. We are going to be working on new plans and initiatives that we can do to bring you even more in touch with our development progress. Starting with a monthly community update, we will highlight and share the progress that the development team have been making over that month. We will be sharing more details around this, and other initiatives, over the coming weeks.

Once again, we would like to thank you all for your patience, understanding and support as we continue to work hard to unlock the great potential of Odyssey for all Commanders.

hmmm...maybe you don't know what a brief roadmap looks like.
Look, let me try to explain.
the shortest version (e.g. for an odyssey) would look something like this.
4.0 is the release of odyssey, we've added the basic mechanics of walking on foot, settling and shooting.
4.1 - we will add panther clipper, mamba light and glaive ships to the game.
4.2 - we will add ship interiors to the game
4.3 - we will add planets with denser atmosphere to the game.
this is what a normal road map looks like with the bare minimum of information.
again you don't know when you can share something like that (not a personal question to you)? so again the community will get information and tests at the very last moment when nothing can be fixed and the release of updates will again be almost unplayable, like odyssey or the release of fleet carriers?
ugh...

This... Is not inspiring, and does not bring confidence. Were really is being used as undisclosed paid beta testers arnt we?

I wouldnt even mind, hell I'd openly endorse it, if you'd have just called it that... But all of these are things that should have been worked on and fine tuned before official release.

You guys seriously should have kept Odyssey under your hats until it was actually ready. Or at least have been open and forth coming about what it was. Seriously, so much face would have been saved, instead it's been turned into a PR disaster.

At least the communication issues have been... noted. Of course, we'll all have to just wait and see where this all goes.

I would prefer you just do 100% fixes before trying to improve things like UI and the maps. Some essential game play like superpower rank progression is broken and making changes already runs the risk of it breaking more stuff.

Please get it fixed and then dig into the UI.
