ANNOUNCEMENT Elite Dangerous | Odyssey: Roadmap

I in no way hold the Community Team responsible for this, and it's clear they're operating on orders from above to keep mum and feel they do a great job in difficult circumstances. All of them (Zac, Arthur and Sally especially) have impressed me over this difficult month.
Can only agree with this. The current Community Team are fantastic, and have always been happy to engage with the players.

Ladies and gents, calling for employee sackings isn't constructive criticism. The staff at Frontier who are undoubtedly working extremely hard don't want to see it. I don't want to moderate it.
So, to prevent any unnecessary and possibly permanent actions taken against your account, and to save me a lot of work, we'll have none of that.

Thanks.

I don't want to moan, whinge and complain about the Odyssey fixes roadmap that was published this evening, but I also know I'm not the only Commander on a really slow Internet connection (3.5Mb/s in my case). The next three updates, coming on the next three Thursdays (at least three!) will be, Frontier said...

"of a similar size to Updates 1 and 2"

Each of which were about 9GB and took the best part of a day to download, during which I can't do anything else online (what a bit of luck I have to sleep during night time). 🙄 I know Odyssey needs to be fixed, and quickly, but does a 50GB game really need the best part of 50GB in updates and patches in the first month after release? It's not helpful doing it this way 😞

Thanks for the roadmap.

I assume this first section means that Odyssey isn't expected to be in a full release quality state (with all performance issues and bugs fixed) until console release?

I would add this is a highly vague roadmap.

"Planetary geometry and lighting is a topic that we know is close to the hearts of many of our explorers, and is something we are looking carefully at. We will of course, continue to update you over the coming weeks as those investigations progress."

This means they are just looking at it with no commitments to improve or address the issue.

this roadmap promising multi-gig patches to chip away at performance and gameplay issues EVERY WEEK for AT LEAST 3 weeks...and people are actually complaining because they were not furnished ahead-of-time with 3 separate itemized lists is frankly the most tragic thing about this thread.

Therefore, we feel the best approach for all our Commanders will be to focus our development efforts after Update 5 on performance and the console release

You need to prioritize performance right now. Waiting a whole month (if not longer) is simply unacceptable. Frame rates in Odyssey are vastly lower than they are in Horizons to the point where it can be considered broken. It should never have been released in such a poor state. Performance should be a priority now, not a month from now!

  • Update 3 – Thursday 10th June
    • Many improvements and fixes, including
    • Loadout UI flow changes
    • Adding earned ARX for on-foot gameplay
  • Update 4 – Thursday 17th June
    • Many improvements and fixes, including
    • Suit Livery UI flow changes
    • Codex CMDR stats
  • Update 5 – Thursday 24th June
    • Many improvements and fixes, including
    • Shared missions
    • Galaxy & system map UI updates
    • Outfitting UI updates

<snip>development work for console will allow for even larger performance optimisations and enhancements for PC too. Therefore, we feel the best approach for all our Commanders will be to focus our development efforts after Update 5 on performance and the console release, and to bring our multi-platform community together once more, which will also allow us to bring even more global optimisation changes and updates to all Elite Dangerous Commanders.

So essentially, FD are deferring any major updates to the broken lighting and planetary tech until after the console release later in the year. No wonder you kept this back until last thing on a Friday. Stockmarket 101. Bravo! The shareholders will be pleased..!

no, it means they acknowledge the issue and are weighing options on how to address it but don't believe they can do it in the next few weeks without NOT doing a lot of MORE IMPORTANT THINGS that you're GOING TO GET INSTEAD
