Just to be clear, are our Paintjobs going to be broken indefinitely then?

I'm shocked this isn't even mentioned in the OP.
I guess this falls under the category "Many improvements and fix"

So that's the organisers of both Distant Worlds III and Operation IDA stepping away (at least for now) from what this game has become - a broken, unfocused mess. Can't say I blame them. Even the 3rd-party tool devs went on strike a while ago at the lack of API support.

FDEV, what does it say when in-game content creators are walking away? This 'roadmap' does little to inspire confidence.

Since the last "Patch bug fix" Odyssey is making my graphics card just hang my whole computer, no issues with anything and the error logs report issues with your executable and memory leaks from your game, I actually have played Cyberpunk with less issues (That was refunded to me by the developers themselves then gifted back to me as I had sent them some source code errors they weren't aware of that got fixed), I have played Alpha release titles that are in Alpha for years (Dayz per example) with less issue, memory leaks and bad coding than this recent installment (I am talking about system performance and running not fps and fancy graphic) For an apparent full released product that I have paid for in full I do not like the fact it is literally breaking my computer and may possibly cost me more of my hard earned money!

For that I have given up playing for now however I would advise others to check their systems while playing and after as you also could potentially be damaging your gpu and maybe your entire system so i would suggest you check for errors on your devices related to this game (Check your Windows error logs, Hardrive error logs using a certified or decent disk check software, and also keep track of your gpu error logs and its running while playing)!

Also I cant even refund the expansion as I was a pre purchase, Steam and yourselves gave me an ultimatum of time played......I was not expecting a bug fix patch to potentially destroy my computer! Also just to add my system is recent, it is not old nor is there any issues with it.

I am a fully credited and certified server administrator and service level 3 operator for some of my country's biggest company's so I know my way around computers as well as other devices. Issue tracker has provided nothing but automated responses and ignorance so putting it here for others to digest.

This issue along with the multitude of others is pretty much paretic for an apparent fully fledged release from a company with the credentials and credit rating you have, It is unacceptable!

I will be also taking a snip of this comment as it most definitely will be removed and posting it to an out sourced forum if needed.

Greetings Commanders,

As mentioned in David’s forum post on 25th May, we would like to share our immediate roadmap for Odyssey and talk a little more about performance and improvements as we move towards the console release later this year.

We’d like to take a moment to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while we review your reports and feedback. We’ve been working hard to address critical issues - Update 2 went live yesterday, which followed Update 1, the previous 2 hotfix updates and server and stability fixes deployed in May. We have been seeing some awesome content shining through from Odyssey, but we know there’s still work to be done to make the experience as good as it can and to further address feedback.

To that end, here’s a short summary of our immediate roadmap of updates and the key focuses within them.

  • Update 3 – Thursday 10th June
    • Many improvements and fixes, including
    • Loadout UI flow changes
    • Adding earned ARX for on-foot gameplay
  • Update 4 – Thursday 17th June
    • Many improvements and fixes, including
    • Suit Livery UI flow changes
    • Codex CMDR stats
  • Update 5 – Thursday 24th June
    • Many improvements and fixes, including
    • Shared missions
    • Galaxy & system map UI updates
    • Outfitting UI updates
Each of Updates 3 to 5 will be of a similar size to Updates 1 and 2, and contain fixes and enhancements to the overall Odyssey player experience, including incremental performance issues for specific circumstances and/or system configurations.

Planetary geometry and lighting is a topic that we know is close to the hearts of many of our explorers, and is something we are looking carefully at. We will of course, continue to update you over the coming weeks as those investigations progress.

While we are expecting to see specific and targeted performance improvements in the upcoming June updates, we are also aware that development work for console will allow for even larger performance optimisations and enhancements for PC too. Therefore, we feel the best approach for all our Commanders will be to focus our development efforts after Update 5 on performance and the console release, and to bring our multi-platform community together once more, which will also allow us to bring even more global optimisation changes and updates to all Elite Dangerous Commanders.

Finally, we would also like to address the topic of communication. We are aware that many of you have been asking about greater communication, visibility and a change on how we share and update Elite Dangerous moving forward. While we do always try to give as clear a vision for the future as possible, such as Horizons or Beyond season roadmaps, we also must accept that this alone has not hit the mark. Our community have always been the beating heart of Elite Dangerous and we take the feedback very seriously. We are going to be working on new plans and initiatives that we can do to bring you even more in touch with our development progress. Starting with a monthly community update, we will highlight and share the progress that the development team have been making over that month. We will be sharing more details around this, and other initiatives, over the coming weeks.

Once again, we would like to thank you all for your patience, understanding and support as we continue to work hard to unlock the great potential of Odyssey for all Commanders.

I would say this is a very positive outcome. I had a feeling things would be on the rise. I never lost faith on this o7

Thanks mate and to all the team. Much appreciated. Sadly there are quite a few who lack the patience and understanding you refer to. I've not been happy with Odyssey's release myself, but I also always believed no-one in the Dev team intended for this either. So it's always been more about what FDEV does about it, for mine - and the team is clearly working hard on fixes (even if the prioritisation of those fixes is not to everyone's liking).

"we feel the best approach for all our Commanders will be to focus our development efforts after Update 5 on performance and the console release"

This will destroy the game, waiting this long to fix the primary issue should be unacceptable to EVERYONE. Sad that we even have to be here as all this should have never happened.
The game has been playing great for me. The updates outlined here will fix a lot of the biggest issues. After those issues are worked out, it's primarily more tuning which will also be in line with the work for a console release, so it makes sense to combine the effort.

I suspect a lot of the remaining issues will be fixed before the end of update 5. They've been getting a ton of other things in in the miscellaneous category each week.

Reflect on this:

This was their best attempt at calming down and winning back the community after the PR disastro of the 40$ alpha that they sold as a finished product.

It took them 1 week to create this "roadmap". Think about it for a moment.

1 week guys..
Again, it's not the time it took them to post. It's the time they felt they could stall for their convenience. And it worked; e.g. The Buur Pit delayed content to await this.

To be fair, its not the text that is important. but what lies therein. If the patches that will come in the given dates are as consequential as they said, and bring back some seriously needed fixes. Who cares if the roadmap is only 3 words long.

I've not yet read through the preceding 28 pages, and not to put too fine a point on it, but...

What's the difference between this "roadmap" and whatever internal document/map you presumably had PRIOR to Odyssey's release that should have covered all of this in the first place?

Further, in light of what has happened over the last couple of years and especially with respect to Odyssey itself - what's so special about this "roadmap" that it's going to suddenly make things right when all previous planning and implementation has fallen short of the mark?

In short - I'm less concerned about a "roadmap" than I am hearing about concrete (i.e., not PR/Marketing fluff) steps FDev is taking to fix their broken internal processes in order to not only fix this mess, but also keep it from happening yet again.
