ANNOUNCEMENT Elite Dangerous | Odyssey: Roadmap

Nope, didn't miss that marketing-ease at all, did you fall for it? Let's be CRYSTAL CLEAR - performance issues are NOT on the "Roadmap" - they are an after thought. If they were part of the roadmap one of them would list

"Major performance issues resolved"

Or something like that - as of course they're going to say that minor fixes and performance updates will come with each, again that's MARKETING. So I guess we'll see - wanna bet me $100 that performance isn't truly resolved until console launch? Yeah, I didn't think you would want to, I wouldn't take that bet with me....

That is surely a silly point of view. You're saying they should nominate a date that they wave a wand over the odyssey code and all performance issues are magically and "truly resolved". That's idiotic. You're saying Frontier are being dishonest. I think you're wrong and that your post reads like it was written by a spoilt child. From where I sit it seems like you and Obsidian Ant are attacking and damaging the game, Frontier are trying to fix it.

For an apparent full released product that I have paid for in full I do not like the fact it is literally breaking my computer and may possibly cost me more of my hard earned money!
Since the alpha I've had to underclock my GPU since it had, without me noticing in time, been running hot enough to be... problematical. Could be coincidental, of course, and obviously it's related to a card design issue, but nonetheless.

To be fair, its not the text that is important. but what lies therein. If the patches that will come in the given dates are as consequential as they said, and bring back some seriously needed fixes. Who cares if the roadmap is only 3 words long.
I would've preferred one three words long. "Trying to fix", for instance. The verbiage here mostly said they disrespect the reader.

That's a pretty poor excuse for a roadmap Arthur, although I get it, you can only post what you're told to and you're a CM not a developer so you don't really understand what's going on with the technology or behind the scenes, you're just the mouthpiece. One thing I might suggest - get one of the FDev principals up on the next livestream to talk through the roadmap. In depth. For a couple of hours. Just one favour please - if it's David B, please don't go full fanboy on him again, the last time you and him were on the same sofa it was honestly just cringeworthy to watch.

I greatly appreciate the update, and still support and respect you folks. But a lot of this seems non-specific. To me, when distilled, this is what I see:

Update 3 – Thursday 10th June
Many improvements and fixes, including (this is not an appropriate bullet point as it is not specific, fluff wording)
Loadout UI flow changes
Adding earned ARX for on-foot gameplay (should be low tier, doesn't affect basic functionality or playability)

Update 4 – Thursday 17th June
Many improvements and fixes, including (this is not an appropriate bullet point as it is not specific, fluff wording)
Suit Livery UI flow changes
Codex CMDR stats (should be low tier, doesn't affect basic functionality or playability)

Update 5 – Thursday 24th June
Many improvements and fixes, including (this is not an appropriate bullet point as it is not specific, fluff wording)
Shared missions
Galaxy & system map UI updates
Outfitting UI updates

The fact that most of the specific playability things are way at the end there....take that as you want. Either it requires massive changes, or a direction to effect said changes hasn't been found yet.

Oh really? in which way?

Had they written tried to fix as you suggest, would have simply meant that they are not certain that the fixes would work.
Are you seriously suggesting that that kind of wording wouldn't have been more offensive?

"yeah guys, we will release some patches. We don't know if it will work tho..., but at least we are trying right!?"

I personnaly have serious doubts about it.

It means they don't have an idea what the problem is. It sounds as if they've basically no skilled development resources to work on this.
Unfortunately bug fixing is very different from feature implementation, one thing is saying "look guys we will add X Y and Z to the game" the other is "we will fix X Y and Z" even if it looks the same, in development it is not so easy, sometimes something that looks simple and could be fixed in 10 minuts or less, can become a nigtmare and end up taking hours or days, depending on the complexity of the problem, specially if demands the rewriting of large sections of the code.

Have you ever hear that saying "don't judge a book by its cover"? Remember this when talking about bugs next time.

"Planetary geometry and lighting is a topic that we know is close to the hearts of many of our explorers, and is something we are looking carefully at. We will of course, continue to update you over the coming weeks as those investigations progress."

please don't change it too far from what we have now. I've spent the last week just exploring the bubble and the outcry over flat, boring colored planets is completely unjustified. The only thing that should be addressed on the visuals is the repetition of terrain brushes and large sections of landmasses. This becomes very visable when using the surface scanner and filters

Will there be an option to stay in a pure Horizons environment after the console release of Odyssey?

I'd be willing to buy an "Odyssey Free" experience to keep what works, especially the existing planetary tech (pre-Odyssey).

Maybe FDev could offer "Elite: Legacy" for those of us that like it the way it was before Odyssey?

I have underclocked my own and also tried an AMD system of mine along with another NVid system, although I can get the game running at a stable framerate and without crashing the background issues it is causing is very worrying especially if you have an SSD the game is making to many data writes to your drive for a game also

Since the last "Patch bug fix" Odyssey is making my graphics card just hang my whole computer...
Yup: exact same issue for me since yesterday's update. For what it's worth, reducing the draw distance helped on my system, dropping the GPU load down to 70-80%.
Also, reducing the supersampling apparently helps: there's a thread on here about that.

Yes I had done this but the background issues on the gpus vram and my ssd's future performance is not worth playing the game right now unfortunately, IT departments dont usually make estimates however if I was to make one id say this game currently is going to burn my system which could last 10+ years short to about 2 years if I played for a month like this.....

Deep joy, I hadn't noticed the attempt to reduce the life of my SSD, thanks for the heads up.

Key word here is "including", I agree its very vague. But one can assume that UI flow changes will be one of many fixes. And not the ONLY fix.

How many fixes tho..... I hope for them as much as possible.

Do you enjoy weekly reading "Fixed X everywhere" only to find 2/3rds of the places you reported that specific issue remain unfixed, and the last place was "fixed" so it is just differently wrong? For instance, the station hologram view is still 90 degrees off - just along the rotation axis now. "Back" doesn't work everywhere, but a couple more places. Interaction with map widgets still has side effects, but the commodity category selector in particular is cleaned up. You can still get stuck in the taxi, but it now refuses to go a few more places.

This is precisely why you have an acknowledgement and retest step in a real issue tracker. Fdev doesn't.

As a tester, I am annoyed that they're regularly throwing away all the effort in aiding them. As a purchaser, I'd be bloody furious about them having the audacity to call pre-beta a full release.
