Judging by Frontiers road map I am afraid Elite Dangerous is now DOOMED to DIE a SLOW DEATH...

They've got about 4 more years to truly sink the ship. That'll be the end of the 10 year plan. I expect maintenance mode after Odyssey gets to its 1.0 state.
I think it depends on your definition of slow. I think it will die slowly after an incompetent low effort cash grab console release in the fall, after which they will keep the frontier store going as long as it clears a profit over server operation expenses. My bet is that it lasts about a year after the console release.
You know what it could actually be good for the game if Frontier steps away.

So let's think critically here.
Frontier spends years developing and hyping the spacelegs portion of the game, so they can deliver and then be like "eh."
As much as I am displeased with the game and the company right now, I would like to point out that the people who make this game are probably exhausted right now.
I want to disagree, but it would mean that things can't get worse.

You should have seen how quickly their thoughts manifested themselves with Sea of Thieves.
That game went up in a puff of smoke. Here and gone, overnight.
