Give Commanders another chance to pick up the Cobra Mk IV and/or Lifetime Pass

Arf answered the question regarding the lack of PS4 availability of the Cobra Mk IV here:
Hey sorry for the delay in coming back on this one, took me a while to ask the right people as this was before my time here.

The Cobra MK IV was an excluve reward to PC and XBOX players that upgraded to Horizons within a year (I believe) and will not be coming to PS4.

I know this is not the answer you hoped for, I am sorry about that but I would rather tell you how it is rather than give you any false hope.

I could have sworn blind that the Cobra Mk IV was offered to the player base twice - once before initial launch, and once before Horizons, and that seems to be backed up by this article Frontier themselves have posted :- https://customersupport.frontier.co...0013565680-Can-I-get-the-Cobra-MK-IV-Windows-, so I'm going to keep my fingers crossed - they even intimate that we should keep paying attention to their social media for Cobra Mk IV updates, so ... fingers crossed ! =]

EDIT: Just realised their post says PS4 players should keep their eyes on social media ... sigh

And to be clear, I'm not demanding Frontier do anything - this is just a "wouldn't it be really, really cool if ..." thread =]

I completely agree with you re: the LEP - I'd be doing it more as a nod to thank them for making a game that I think is really, really cool, plus it'd be nice to know you had any future expansion packs (walking around the interior of your ships perhaps ?) in the bag without having to worry about being time-barred for any specific content =]

!?!?! Mister Sinister !?!?!

That's the reason I bought one.

The MK4 was an exclusive release, never to be released again, if you release it again it's not exclusive! People keep accusing FDEV of lying, then demand FDEV release an item they promised was an exculsive release, what then, everyone accuses them of lying again? As for the LEP, I'd buy one right now! Although I would have preferred it before the Odyssey release.

We all know that

We also know that nothing is set in stone and FD might change stance, things are evolving and so on.

FD could even make a copy of it, do some minor alterations (for example add 1-2 more utility slots and in exchange transform a size 2 internal in a size 1) and name it Cobra Mk5 and release it for everyone

Or simply state that C4 was an exclusive for Horizons (which is true)
And now since Horizons folded in the base game, everyone has access to it (which could make sense - after all, people that preordered Horizons payed a lot of cash for it, and i got it for free on Epic)

Of course that's not correct is it, it wasn't an exclusive for Horizons, it was an exclusive for upgrading to Horizons, two entirely different things;

Why would you want the LEP now? You'll never get your money's worth if you bought it now.
Heck, it's been (nearly) 7 years (since official release) and only now are us LEP holders breaking even, and that's IF you got it for about £80 in the kickstarter, others paid more than that (£140 seems to come to mind, it might not be accurate). Getting the LEP now could very possibly mean you'd never get your money's worth and that's assuming Frontier release expansions for stuff you actually want and don't mess up the releases.

And the Cobra MkIV ... you do know it is literally the worst ship in the game .... right? I'm not downplaying it to bask in the exclusivity, it really is the worst ship in the game.

EDIT, and to clarify, I'm not against everyone having the Cobra mkIV, I think everyone should be able to get it, but people who don't have access to it, wanting access to it, I hope they understand how rubbish it is.

Yes, that's how it was back then
Also back then it was inconceivably to think they will give ED+Horizons for free when people used to pay premium for Horizons (during preorder and for a while after launch)

When Horizons folded in the base game, there were voices slamming down FD for it... because they payed premium for it

All i'm saying is: things can change. All it takes is FD wanting the change

It may be the worst ship generally speaking, but it is still the best small multipurpose. And in EDO is the best small pad ship plus the best ground attack small ship

See, whether I feel cheated or not (I don't, btw, that was a "moment in time" transaction), Frontier didn't modify my contract. They created a new contract with the players that didn't already have one with regard to Horizons.

As a result, they preserved the Status Quo in relation to the existing contracts. Whether any individual, or group of individuals, liked the action, Frontier acted legally.

Bringing that back around to the C4, its exclusivity is still part of my, and everyone else that qualifies, legally binding contract with Frontier. As neither those don't have access, nor those that do, constitute the whole of the player base, Frontier cannot make a change to the environment in regard to the C4 (with, perhaps, the exception of removing it) without having that legal obligation come into play.

......

What complete wishful-thinking nonsense. The Quattro was a reward (inducement) to upgrade PC versions to Horizons by a certain date, the release of the xbone version of Elite came after the PC one and the qualifying date for the Quattro on that was 5 months later than that for the PC. The PS4 version of Elite was not released until late 2017 and was never offered a Quattro at all (I have no idea why*).

* Interestingly that support FAQ contains a bit of a teaser for PS players: "We recommend PS4 users keep an eye on our social media channels for updates regarding the Cobra Mk IV." - so I wonder what that actually means. Since the FAQ was dated 9 months ago I suspect it has fallen through the cracks.

I think Robert Maynard addressed this in his post at the top of page 2 of this thread - basically it sounds like they decided they ultimately wouldn't be offering the Cobra Mk IV to PS4 players, but they don't appear to have modified this article, which is ... kinda disappointing for PS4 players that were interested in it =/

Nevermind. It's been an interesting discussion, so thanks for your time.

You do realise you are asking FDev to take the metaphorical combination of chainsaw and sledge hammer, to the least damaged parts of the companies integrity and reputation... right?

I highly doubt that.
But at this point, would it really surprise you?

CMDR Sinister, I just thought about something, even if FDEV offered to eventually deliver a Cowell & MgRath Cobra III (like Luko's Bella Principessa) or early Faulcon DeLacy Cobra MkIII, (like John Jameson had) to folks with Odyssey or pre ordering Odyssey prior to console release, there will be future players coming along after console release. And there would be interest in obtaining such a special ship. Making such a Cobra an exclusive would just create another Cobra MkIV situation, all over again.

So, there needs to be another way to earn such a reward, after console release. And I think the best way is to do that is to offer such a ship to any CMDR achieving the rank of Elite in all categories, possibly excluding CQC. There could also be a special paint scheme for the ship that you may only obtain by achieving the rank of Elite in all categories, (excluding CQC?) such as a black with white wire frame paint scheme, similar to the one early backers were offered for the current Faulcon DeLacy Cobra MkIII. o7

P.S. Another reason to not make such a ship exclusive to only folks with Odyssey or pre-ordering Odyssey before console release, if all players can obtain the ship through effort, there's more incentive to create paint schemes, ship kits and other neat stuff for the ship, that owners of the ship can obtain in the store.

See now that's an idea I can get behind Cmdr James, well said !. If they were to do that, then it would be similar to the Founders' World Permit that early backers got as a reward for pre-purchasing Elite Dangerous back in the day. People that didn't pre-purchase ED (like myself) had to work one of their core progression areas up to Elite in order to get the Founders' World Permit, and access to Shinrarta Dezhra, so yeah it would serve as a way of saying "if you pre-ordered/were an early backer, you get this as a thank you from the outset; if you didn't pre-order/weren't an early backer, you betta WORK !!" hehe.

Either way it would remove the exclusivity guard off the item. The irony of it seems to be that virtually everybody that has the ability to have it doesn't like it (Northpin notwithstanding :)), and everybody that doesn't have it but wants it is told not to bother.

Ultimately FDev will do what it wants, but as this is the suggestions board, I think it's fine for us to keep the dream alive =D
