Big Elite Streamers Giving Up On Streaming Elite?

I doubt a fish bowl and a bit of sand would sway TheYamiks.
I think that one was sort of symbolic stamp of approval from FDev, following up on Yamiks not receiving a free license for the alpha (the first alpha). For a content creator having a connection to the devs is important, because it allows them to prepare videos that can be released on launch day etc. which seemed to be the way FDev tried to punish Yamiks for being critical. A Youtuber the size of Yamiks should just buy the license themselves to avoid any conflict of interest, but sometimes you need to have access before release to do your work.

Its the swearing and the aggression of Yamiks which put me right off and makes his videos for me hard to watch. Not compatible really with playing the videos while i'm working.

As regards if streamers are abandoning Elite, frankly, I don't normally care. They come and go all the time. The only one I do miss is Mercenary Thornn, he used to be a very good watch playing a good selection of games.

I really don't mind if people receive licences free or buy themselves. But we have seen many times here that tea & cookies and little gifts can sway presentation. What I do like about TY is that he always says it how he feels it. And from my perspective, he is always right. Others tip toe around.

Personally I grew up in a hood where everyone spoke like Yamiks, so I see straight through that and focus on the message. When I started playing ED, the first youtuber I found was Astro/D2EA. He helped me a LOT getting into the game, which honestly has a learning curve similar to some of the complicated astronomical software I've used. Astro is a very nice guy :)

Then I stumbled upon Yamiks, and that taught me some of the less official sides of the game. On top of that he made me laugh, and lack of humor is one of the issues I have with ED. Some of his videos of places to visit etc. are very informative, and his recent long review of Elite shows both his love towards the game, but also that because we love the game we want FDev to continue delivering what we love, instead of adding a half baked FPS. Yamiks is even an avid FPS fan.

Yamiks knows his stuff, but for me his delivery style is over done and relentless. TBH though, I'm sure he doesn't care what I think.

All of the ED streamers are minnows in the grand scheme. A few pages back someone posted about the success of Among Us. I have seen LazarBeam stream that game a few times (my daughter likes him) and he has 21.3M subscribers, you only need a small percentage of those to get involved for any game to do well.

I don't think they punished him for being critical. They punished him for his potty mouth and childish attitude to the content he exploits .. and denegrates .. with less than objective critique.

his childish attitude????? I think the only looking childish here is FDev. Maybe if they didn't give him the opportunity to critique then it might go better for them? As for potty mouth... Meh... I've heard a lot worse in the military and elsewhere.

Fine - in the army - but PEGI ratings and forum rules still prevent me from describing some of the stuff he does with the FPS characters.

By childish attitude I also mean Yamiks makes no account of the fact that the FPS needed a lot of pre-baking. It's not a green field building site. Every lever, every input needed to feed into the BGS - and the BGS needed to be molded to accept it. That means adapting Horizons formed just as large part of this development as the space legs did and that it's entirely understandable why Frontier wanted the basics up and running before adding cyborg bartenders and so on. That's not half baked, it's thorough.

you mean all the stuff that ISNT hooked into the BGS in a released product they charged full price for, or even ARX? :ROFLMAO:

There's a lot of speculation, assumptions and jumped to conclusions in that paragraph... ;)

Yeah but they didn't. That was one of the things Yamiks pointed out and then people went "only alpha". I don't care if some snowflakes get hurt by his vocabulary and decide that he's not for them. That's fine and dandy, but I do think some of his critics owe him at least credit for being right about what FDev obviously was doing.

For example?

I know for my example that on a list of 10 worst Odyssey designs Yamiks published (mind you) as a critique, I think it was number seven .. was a bug, not a design feature, that was listed in patchnotes the previous day!

So any argument that it's all for the love of the game just isn't substantiated by the facts. Yes we are all aware there have been issues with Odyssey - not unusual in software releases - but especially given the financial position (6 years since the last paid update) that Yamiks must also be aware of; exploiting and in fact attempting to maginify damage to your golden goose, isn't very grown up.

To be honest, it's not really the bugs and the performance issues that worry me. Those will be patched in time and, to be honest, Odyssey is in a lot better state now than launch; it's the future of the game I'm worried about. Fdev have let parts of the game whither on the vine before and I'm concerned that after they've got the console release out, they'll consider it 'Job Done' and walk away from both Odyssey and Elite itself. One of the things the community needs is reassurance that is not going to happen and people were hoping that the Roadmap would alleviate that anxiety.

The only two positives that I can take about the present situation is that the background story and events are still planned into 2022 and that they've promised monthly updates about what the devs are working on (note:- they have really said about the future of the game at the moment).

You are definitely also one of the content creators I subscribe to, and the first one that popped into my mind when "honest" was mentioned earlier. Thanks for all the videos. I truly appreciate those.

Also, I must admit that you master the diplomacy much better than the "childish Latvian" :alien:

I was watching a couple of streamers on Twitch play Odyssey yesterday, they seemed to be (mostly) enjoying it despite the issues. One or two of them were very difficult to watch however, constant hitching, low FPS and jerky animations.

I think the performance issues will put off many streamers from playing and many viewers from watching EDO.

Watching an Elite live stream for "the game" is about as interesting as watching a soccer match. 1.5 hours of nothing with a few seconds of adrenaline. I sometimes watch Astro's live streams, but mostly because he is telling interesting stuff about the game and the Universe, while endlessly scanning planets ;)

If you think about it rationally, they would have to wait around a year from stopping the sales of ED software before switching the servers off... So Q4 2022 could be interesting.

The lack of goodwill toward Odyssey (and Frontier as developers) would need a massive boost upward to make ED viable financially, I guess it all depends on whatever happens with consoles in Autumn, and if Odyssey can be optimised sufficiently to run on low-spec PCs.

On topic... I'm pretty ancient yet watch a few streamers (and even have subscribed to a few) because they may not always mimic my own views, but often give me content that causes me to think. What more could I ask?
