Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

ED currently has a server error, its around 900K.

Thanks.
"The Players and Daily login numbers are estimations based on subscriber numbers and online sentiment."

Paper-thin data base I'd say.
Right now Steam accounts for 6819 players in ED. Steam accounts for a third of players total, maybe? Console, Epic and FD direct sale competes in terms of platform. Let's make it a quarter. Every of these players plays just one hour and that would get us 654624 players a day. I think 900K might be a bit optimistic.

What did CIG lie about?

Oooh, you walked right into that one!

Have you seen this album? You might like it.

Especially this one (which i've posted many times before)

No it's not the majority. We talk more about SC because we can play SC but for me and others SQ42 is more important. A lot have backed for the solo game, not the multi.

Based off the responses i've seen, totally disagree. Its always the same "Where is SQ42?" Responses: "I didn't back for SQ42, i don't care about SQ42"

You think all those ship sales are coming from people who even care about SQ42?

Thanks.

It also doesn't distinguish between ED and EDO.

It ranks ED 9/127 MMOS, SC 11/127, it ranks all these MMOS based on educated gestimation, i'm not sure its possible to get actual numbers unless these titles publish that data daily, its the best we have for a rough estimate and both ED and SC rank pretty high.

Oh yeah there's alot of upset backers...After the EDO announcement there were videos popping up on YouTube from SC fans pretending to take a balanced view, with various people seeming pretty upset about it. EDO was destined to be "crappy" long before we saw any gameplay. They aren't looking at many other games and saying "oh look at this, here's why its not very good and here's what it MEANS for SC" etc.

Meanwhile, people are pointing at NMS etc. on this forum and saying "hey Frontier change your business model and change your communication etc", they aren't however pointing at SC and saying "here is how you SHOULD do FPS in a space game". Considering the extreme budget, shouldn't SC be the one leading the way?

FD mess up. Players outraged!

CIG mess up. Backers pledge for more ships!

Yes, but chatter is one thing, having a tangible effect is quite another.

What do you think the EDO conversation among Star Citizens is now? Given how even ED's own fans are feeling about it?

Watching SaltEMike's streams and EDO gets quite a few mentions, and despite the problems with EDO, some still talk about it positively.

But basically its like comparing a dog poo on your plate vs a promise of dog poo later.

I have been trying and will continue to try and win people over to EDO.

Ugh. Why? No need to evangelise games at all. If they are good they will stand on their own merit.

This is one thing that i dislike about the SC community. How they go out there and proselytize how great SC is to the masses. Its one reason it gets called a cult. Don't need to do that for ED, its up to people to take a look at it and decide for themselves.

Anyway, pledge now and use my code to get 5000 aUEC 5TAR-N07-4-5C4M

Steamcharts has averages

11448 players in ED average last 30 days. Same assumption gives roughly 1m players. So the 900K players might be not that bad an estimate. However, they don't play just for one hour each. It'd be half for 2h sessions and a third for 3h sessions. etc. Were talking unique account logins. Concurrent players don't give that info reliably.

Lol that website is the biggest load of drivel out there.

How does SC have around 13.2 million backers when CR has said they have 1.2 million?
How does it have 756k daily players when CR says they have 30k?

What a complete load of numbers-out-the-rectum tripe.

3.14 Million Backers, that's people who have put money into the game, you can have an account, be "subscribed" and not pay a penny, a lot of people will have that for the regular free fly events they do.

What did CIG lie about?
Delivery Dates - at least now they admit they have no clue about when they will be able to release something
Virtual Reality
110 systems at launch
co-op able Squadron 42 leading into open world Star Citizen
all money spent only on development of the game, not marketing or prestige projects
Open Development
No Pay2Win

I am sure there is more, this is just the things I care(d) most about or that immediately came to mind.

Star Citizen
  • Do we see PvPers setting up tournaments and ranking each other? No. Descync makes it pointless. They say this themselves.

  • Do we see mining guilds fanning out into space to mine the best materials, bringing escorts along for protection, earning money and progressing through the game? No. We see miners derping around and testing the mechanics in each patch.

  • Do we see trading guilds searching out the best deals, hoping to beat other players to a great sale, then taking that great haul for a fantastic return, all the while protected by escorts? No. Again there is derping around or individuals testing out the mechanics in one ship or not doing it out of a fear of 30Ks (and the lack of persistence).

  • Do we see salvage teams...... LOL

--> Star Citizen streamers aren't actually exercising MMO gameplay loops. They're derping around in goat simulator, while dreaming of the future.

EDO
  • Players have discovered at least eight of the nine on-foot engineers, and what they upgrade ( LINK ). This cannot be done without exercising numerous Odyssey-specific gameplay loops. The game is working.

  • Canonn have discovered 107 species of Odyssey-specific plants so far ( LINK ). Players have fanned out across the galaxy, doing the exobiology gameplay loop.

  • Players are exercising the various and varied Odyssey-specific missions, like salvage, massacre missions, settlement restore missions, etc.

--> EDO is working, with some issues for some.

No.
This January, we crossed 1 million paying player accounts,

3.14 million backers and about 1/3rd of them have paid something.

That website should not be used for stats, it is completely fake.

Ask yourself this, if they really had 13.2 million accounts trying out the game why have they never made any mention of it?

And yet it does, the daily player count of SC is around 750,000, for EDO its around 900,000.
750,000 daily players for SC, no. Just no. Try 15,000 on a good day, with 30,000 daily players on free fly events, maybe -- since that came from Chris Roberts and the man lies like he breathes. I doubt they are hitting close to 5k concurrent worldwide players, even with massive sales and free fly events.

Star Citizen is propped up by people treating ships like a cryptocurrency and a crazy amount of streamers with tens and tens of thousands of dollars "invested" into the game. That's it. It's absolutely insane that whenever I log on to SC I see popular streamers and even people in this thread on the same server. It's a small, tiny community.
