Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I think you are missing my point so I'll make it one more time with no follow up..

A game with the length of development time and extensive post Holywood blockbuster budget of Star Citizen should not be disrupted by small/medium tier add-ons from niche market developers using budget mo-cap rig at home... it should be the undesputed "best damn space game" right?
SC community in majority doesn't care about ED. SC will not be disrupted by EDO.

I'm not asking you to watch those videos (it was just a general YT search) it was just to show that there was much discussion and disruption in the SC communicty concerning Odyssey's launch because it overlapped with SC in scope.

Yes, but chatter is one thing, having a tangible effect is quite another.

What do you think the EDO conversation among Star Citizens is now? Given how even ED's own fans are feeling about it?

I am sure they haven't even played it and only do so through watching Yamiks etc.

Shame because the dynamic FPS mission system is quite robust even now, it's the kind of thing that SC would be promoting heavily through road maps and "never been done before videos" for years before you saw it in "tier 0".

I have been trying and will continue to try and win people over to EDO.

ED's gameplay mechanics are far more polished than SC, that is something worth shouting about.
Having 40 Billion star systems isn't, when visually 99% of it is copy and paste, good grief visually SC just as much location verity and visually SC's locations are on an entirely different level, where ever you go in SC it looks stunning and while that may not matter to you it matters to people who play SC

Landing on any random lactation miles from any placed LZ on any random moon and the chances are if you get out of your ship you will want to spend a few minutes just taking in the sights.

You can't say that about EDO.

SC is an incredibly tough nut to crack because despite its faults, of which it has many, it is in many ways actually fairly spectacular and spectacular is very difficult to achieve.

Random middle of nowhere location...

The environments are pre-determined by the developer specifically to "look good" in terms of textures, lighting etc that look familiar to Earth dwellers. on a quantifiable number of locations in an engine that were specifically designed for the purpose of looking good over anything else. You'll get no argument from me that SC planets look great - there have always been substandard games that look good. CIG seemed to historically hire more artists than programmers to kick out stuff that "looks good".

Lots of artists + cryengine makes things that look good.

Is that where things are? Throwing jabs as a way of getting back at all the valid criticism levied at SC.
Many backers desperately try to obfuscate, attempting to blur the difference between CIG and other game studios.

It's hilarious watching SC streamers say they aren't trying Odyssey yet due to instability or performance, as they glitch through floors.

Well....

Flight combat in SC works pretty well, most of the time, its fun, the flight model is very good. ED flight model is different, but also very good, i enjoy it too.
I find mining in SC more enjoyable.
Cargo hauling, you're moving goods around, its neither better or worse than it is in ED.
FPS combat, SC FPS NPC's are extremely janky, really just seriously bad.

ED has a lot of game loops that are based around exploration, SC has none.

ED's fans are having fun playing a great new expansion. Only the noisy complainers are on the forums. As always, the complainers claim to represent everyone. The rest of us have been playing the game.

SC's fans are still waiting for a game, eight years after the Kickstarter.

Check Steam.

The only follow up I have to any of that, going back to my original point. ED shouldn't be able to compete considering the time and budget differences.

We're coming up to 10 years in and people have explorer ships for Star Citizen, they probably thought they'd set foot on planets even the artists hadn't had time to choose lighting compesitions for in advance.

I'm too busy actually playing the game with friends.

Just like I've been saying for years with SC, both games are streamed 24 / 7. Anyone can watch them. If the forums/steam were accurate, no one could be streaming EDO. And yet that is not the case.

Everyone can watch themselves.

Well this argument is kind of similar than those of resident SC fans arguments about just playing and having fun ;) But yeah likewise, I do myself same, haters gonna hate, but I play EDO in its current state, and mostly like it, bugs or not. And considering that Frontier is going to do console release eventually, that means most of the performance bugs and so on are going to be busted.

On that ^^^^^^ note...

And yet it does, the daily player count of SC is around 750,000, for EDO its around 900,000.

There are other AAA titles who wished they had player counts like that so despite the troubles both games have there are a lot of pragmatic people who still enjoy these games.

Well, or not :) I mean, I hope they do but I have a feeling Xbox Series and PS5 will be the place to play EDO on consoles, instead of last gen.

Not because players are having fun, but because the game is working. For many of us, EDO has been working from release day, with some issues. Anyone can watch the streams. Players are progressing through the suit engineers for example. They are exercising the gameplay loops. Canonn is finding and documenting the new bios. The game works.

SC fans play also. Yes they wait for the a release, but an actual game is already here and fun, they don't have to wait to play.
IMHO, SC is not an actual game since it doesn't have the level of persistence, stability, progression and gameplay loops for an MMO.

If CIG were selling goat simulator you might have an argument.
