Yeah, but you acquire the items the same way.
If it's fair for you to say X takes too long, why is me saying Y takes too long equivalent with me hating everything about Odyssey?
Only unlocking data requirements need be sourced from data points exclusively (and not all of them, Oden's unlock can be done 100% via mission rewards, that's how I did it)
Engineering data types (the ones in the image I showed you), every single one of them across every single blueprint, can be gained via mission rewards, often up to 5 at a time. That can mean about 4 missions for a lot of mods (and you don't always have to do that either, we still do get these via natural play so long as you always check data ports). You can opt to only do it via grinding data ports if you like, of course. But I'd not recommend that.
You just said you find the gathering of the mats for these mods tedious. The gathering of these mats can be done via missions exclusively. If you don't find missions tedious then the process shouldn't be as bad as you may be imagining it could be. If you find Odyssey missions fun, engineering is fun. It's that simple. Maybe I misunderstood you and you just meant to say it's tedious to unlock some engineers. In which case I agree with you on that.
I do think this thread is nothing to do with that though and I've made my feelings on that process very clear in the threads discussing unlocks. In short...
We've highlighted two of the "worst" mods in Odyssey and they do not require a ton of effort to achieve. Actually, I found it immensely fun so far. Almost exclusively fun. Once you're past the unlock part, making these mods is the best bit. Because you do it via missions which I think are all fun to do and it's so quick!
Compare that to Horizons, where unlocking is just the first part of a very, very long road of mats gathering, flying all over the bubble (and outside of it!), rolling about 30 times for each mod and so on. I love Odyssey engineering compared and I think it doesn't get enough credit for the things it does right.
