Hardware & Technical T-16000m or Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas ?

related question: Can any "vintage" controller, and in particular a CH Fighterstick and here in particular a CH Pro Throttle be used IF THEY HAVE A DB9 connector but I use USB adapter? Or would there be driver problems?

Edit: Some googling...scrap that. They would need a converter, and even then it's only 50/50 chance it would work. Not worth it. Win7/Win8 entirely dropped gameport support and a solution via USB converter would be..let's put it that way "finicky" from what I read.

I think the feeling of having a separate throttle is a big thing and I wouldn't want to go back to only using the little slider on the joystick.

Funnily enough when playing the Easter Egg I managed to dock and land no problems with the T.16000M. Next day I tried it with the T16 and the CH Pro throttle; it didn't end well :) .

I'm sure it'll all be fixed after I've spent a hour or so crashing around a station.

Brumster (a user on this forum) has done the conversion so you might want to pm him

I bought the T-16000m a while ago but it's been lying dormant until Elite just recently. I find it's a great joystick, and thanks to Tim (Wheatley) for your demo as well. It helped me to make the plunge with Elite.

Also, thanks very much to whoever it was in this thread who suggested using GlovePIE in order to get some extra functionality out of the joystick. You answered a question I was asking myself yesterday, about whether it might be possible to program modifier keys to increase the amount of available buttons.

As of now, the hat-switch button on the joystick does three different things.. in normal mode, it controls thrusters (up/down/left/right). With the first modifier key, I can divert power to Systems/Engine/Weapons/Balanced (this was the thing I really wanted to work out how to do). With the second modifier, I push left for the Targets Panel, up for the Sensors Panel, and right for the Systems panel. It's all really easy to handle and has freed up some of the other buttons on the lefthand side of the joystick for other important stuff.

With Voice Attack, which I've also been testing out since last night, I feel everything is basically at my fingertips at this point.

so Space, here I come. ;)

PS, I don't mind the throttle on the T-16000m either. It's nothing fancy, but it does the trick. If you spend time to set yourself up so you don't need to take your left hand off the throttle, then probably the only reason you'd fork out for a dedicated throttle would be for the cool factor. But then again I've never used one of those.

I've apparently snuffed out some brain synapses I thought I would never need. I'm having a hell of a time opening/accessing and cycling through information panels on my T-flight.

Can someone tell me how they have it set up to work?

So I have a thrustmaster 16000m coming...remains the question about a throttle. At this point I still don't want to spend €100 on the Ch Pro Throttle.

QUESTION:

Could I get me a cheap Thrustmaster Hotas X, plug it in together with my 16000m and then simply only use the THROTTLE of the Hotas X (POSSIBLY even with some internal hacking to completely disconnect the joystick part)...so I end up with a 16000m joystick and a cheap Hotas X throttle?

Alternative: I just use my mouse wheel as ghetto throttle? :)

Man I am so happy!

I just got the 16000m for €15 and a Ch Pro USB throttle for €40 + s/h, I can't believe the guy still had the throttle for this price. This is the next best setup besides those high-end HOTAS.

Does the happy dance!!

where did you get them from buddy?

Don't know if this was addressed here already, but what about the cable length between the throttle and joystick on the T-Flight Hotas X, is this long enough to place a keyboard in between the two ? How many cm long is the cable and how far are the throttle and joystick centers apart ? Thanks !

Got my T-Flight HOTAS X yesterday, the throttle feels a bit "sticky" (takes a little extra force to get it moving from a dead stop), but other than that it's pretty much perfect. Very comfortable to use, the adjustable resistance is fantastic.

Huge improvement over my FLY 5 flightstick.

Having used the T. Flight Hotas X for a week know I am really disappointed with the large dead zone, aiming is far from precise which is a big hindrance especially in dogfights. I am thinking of getting a T16000M instead. Know would it be possible to use a T. Flight Hotas together with the T16000M ? I would really like to keep using the throttle on the T. Flight.

Can anyone share his/her presets for T.16000M?? I was trying to find some presets for this one but I could find anything :/.

Also why no one consider Defender Cobra M5:)??

I have both connected and running under ED at the moment. I had to adjust the bindings but it is possible to use both simultaneously. If find the T16000M much more responsive and precise. Because of the build in 3D (Hall Effect) magnetic sensors which produce precision levels 256 times greater than the T. Flight Hotas. Best of all there is no dead-zone whatsoever on the T16000M a big improvement over the T. Flight Hotas stick. As a bonus I can keep using the T. Flight Hotas throttle. The combination of the two is the best of both for me right now, until i have the money to buy a high end Hotas.

Edit 1: The only disadvantage I find is the fact the T16000M is much stiffer and puts a lot more strain on your wrist. I guess I will be using the stick that came with the T. Flight Hotas for trading missions and exploring and only when under attack or having to evade interdiction I will grab the T16000M, which I have sitting directly next to it.

Edit 2: Interesting development this morning. I found out that if I only set the yaw, roll and pitch axes of the T. Flight Hotas and not bind the yaw, roll and pitch left and right individually the T. Flight Hotas stick was much more responsive, almost as responsive as the T16000M. This way I got rid of most of the horrible dead-zone it had before. The T16000M is still a bit more accurate but at the cost of a stiffer stick, which I do not prefer.

I will keep both for the moment and see over time which one I actually prefer, but at the moment it seems I will do fine with the T. Flight Hotas X.
