Please add a "sell non-essential goods" and "Sell non-essential assets" button at bartenders

That'd rely upon the user determing what was non-essential. But yeah, if frontier was nice, they'd offer this functionality to sell goods/assets which no blueprints or engineer unlocks require

The big question, is why do we have engineering mats AND commodities like item, and use SOME of both for engineering. Why not JUST engineering mat, you know, like in Horizon.
There problem solved.
We don't even use all our engineering mat. It's silly.

Rather than selling assets, I think it makes more sense to trade them up for the highest-valued asset in their class. You keep the value while reducing the volume, so you have that much more to trade later on.
Why not just collect scrap, and trade it for engineering points then?

my guess is they plan to do that to the system down the road and just slapped on the old horizons system for the time being

They also slapped the very old horizon system of having total storage cap instead of per material storage cap.

I understand why we have performance issues, Fdev have a few years of lag. That's serious.

I also think it was rushed and most uses for the mats where cut, but yeah, it needs fixing.

@OP, be careful what you wish for. If they added such a button it would 100% remove all of your essential materials, induce insane lag, kick you out of the instance and delete half of your active missions. Not to mention the 23 zombie bugs from 2016 that it would resurrect.

Well, it's trying to be like ship gameplay actually.

You can buy commodities in the ship gameplay, which you trade and stuff - that's what all these useless items represent. Kinda.

The designers are like "Yeah! we can make all these items they can sell for credits! they'll love it!"

I think it runs slightly differently - they're trying to make the bases look like someone actually uses them, so there's personal supplies, industrial byproducts, etc. lying around.

And then they added the ability to sell them for a token (though still useful to a beginner) amount of money - and make them mission targets, sometimes - because otherwise people would ask "what's the point in all these personal computers lying around that we can't do anything with"?

While incredibly salty there is a germ of truth in this - any list would be written once and left to rot. It would also have to be quite complex to work - does it sell your Cat Media, but only if you have 20 Classic Multimedia? Would it stop fdev ever being able to to on-foot CGs for 'useless' mats as no-one would have any? And what happens when they add a new engineer with new mats that are no marked as useful? Sure - all these wrinkles can be overcome, but this is fdev 🤷‍♀️

The correct answer is still - per-mat storage limits. Somewhere around 200 (maybe more for MI & Schematics) would work fine.

IF IsUsedInAnyBlueprintOrGoddamnEngineerUnlock()?
Now it's just thrown away all your power regulators.
