Yeah, the LOD bugged. But hey, you have clouds !
I can instantly tell it's on ultraforcapture setting.

I feel a rant welling up and it wants to get out.... So here it is for what it's worth...

First of all, I have a long history with Elite, I played the original, when it was original, but it wasn't until I saw the Amiga version of Elite Frontiers that I really appreciated the game. Back then, it was a whole universe that fit on a single floppy disk, with room for saves. It was 3D with realistic physics and it was awesome. I was blown away by what Braben had accomplished then. Because of the 365 ly bug feature, I was inspired to use trigonometry for the first and last time to calculate a galaxy spanning jump, and then spent a good half hour panning the map to the target area that I calculated. Good times. Then the Elite PC First Encounters debacle (History repeats?) happened and we went into the drought where we wouldn't see another game for decades...

I wasn't on the ground floor with Elite Dangerous, I did keep an eye on it, with great interest. It went on the wish list. I was a family man with 4 kids so that kinda ate my time. I didn't buy in until Elite was discounted with Horizons. And even then I didn't install for a long time after. But when I finally did, I was rehooked! I'm an explorer, I love going where no one has gone before and discovering something. I've barely scratched the surface on what the game had to offer since I have little interest in combat or trade. I liked the story arcs that seeped through the various POI. I love putting on the tin foil hat and try to figure out a mystery before Canonn does (Damn You Canonn! I'll beat you yet!....).

That being said, I found that the addon Horizons did not deliver as assumed (I haven't kept track of those promises). I found it odd that with all this focus on planet exploration, that you were stuck with 1 non modable, non upgradable SRV! 1!??? , You have tens of ships for most occasions, but only 1 SRV!??? Oh and to add insult to injury, you had a cargo limit of 2!!??? Like really?? We have literally millions of planets to explore and we are given the most basic equipment to do it with. Even Odyessy had better options! And how hard would it have been to patch a bigger inventory for the SRV's so you don't have to make a billion trips to load cargo! People paid upwards of $150 for this expansion, and if I had been one of those people I would have been insensed at the lack of options! Where was the righteous fury then!? Why did nothing improve? Why in 7 years has nothing been done?

It would seem in those years after the Salome incident, leading up to the anouncement of Odysessy FDev put ED on the back burner and left it to rot. There were little in the way of Story, Galnet was shut down... Only the die hards were playing. Then somebody decided to blow on the ashes. Odyessy was announced, a new story was released, people started playing again! Hope was in the air!

And now we have Odyessy, the latest train wreck in a line of train wrecks that FDev has pushed out yet again half baked. But I argue that it is more baked than Horizons is or at least a better initial offerings and more initial thought went into it. I agree the deployment sucks, but then that seems to be the achilles heel of this company. They always seem to chose speed over quality, and the results are the same. And the only reason they are scrambling to fix things right now, is their stocks tanked so much due to the back lash. People are so focused on them finishing Odyessy, I posit they never finished Horizons. So don't get your hopes up that they will do more than the minimal to quell the rebellion. That's what history has shown so far.

Personally, what I would like to see, is to see Horizons actually done justice, for them to finish Odyessy as promised, and for them to focus after that, not on more features, but on more QOL fixes, and on more story! Put Drew W on retainer and have him pumping out campaigns of quests continously. The Salome incident may not have ended the way most wanted, but it did grab peoples attention in a more positive way than DLC ever has. More of the community involvement needs to be done. I see some of that with bases being attacked, rescued, repaired and so forth and I really hope this continues!

Anyways, my brain is burning out, I've had my say. Such as it is, and for what its worth...
Nice wall of text there, matey :)

With the last sentence we can help - read pages 1-100 of this thread and the pain will go away. Someone promises.

I think it's now safe to say that the state of the game itself is currently off topic and as such any off topic posts are actually quite topical and serve as an artistic metaphorical representation of the repressed creative expressionism fdev feels while bound in the restraints of their own self imposed deadlines.

A true masterpiece indeed.

I see you understand 😁

Space walking is not a feature we thought would be something players would really be able to utilize for meaningful gameplay. So there is 0 plan to add it anytime soon.

Also, nobody is going to miss VR either right? No. ok, good ....because that's kind of garbage now and nobody knows how vr works to fix it.

I mean: why should anyone want to shoot them at launch?
Shooting them through airlock when they are still alive and aware of what's going on is so much more fun... :sneaky:

refers poster to roadmap. Notes on roadmap it specifically states on patch #4:

4. Released the week after #3
  • No airlock ejections of npc or player characters.
  • No ship interiors
  • Keep That Which Will Not Be Named broken and lacking collapse or any new content.
  • Bugfixes and optimizations.
