Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 4

Greetings Commanders!

At approximately 07:00 UTC / 08:00 BST today, we have deployed 'Update 4' to address a number of issues and implement some quality tweaks and improvements to Elite Dangerous: Odyssey.
Patch notes reflecting such can be found down below for you.

As always - A huge 'thank you' for your continued support and feedback, as we continue working hard to improve the Elite Dangerous player experience.
Any word on Smear Campaigns? I know it's been said they are in the game but as I say "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence". I find it an extraordinary claim they are in the game as I can find no evidence of anyone finding them.!

Thank you for posting them while we wait, also dear god your deep breath wasn't kidding on the UI changes. Here's to hoping the performance increases are noticable.

Heads up - I'm going to get coffee, do a few things to start my day (patch notes came first before those things haha!!) THEN, I'll be back. Bear with me, Commanders o7

I definitely appreciate getting the patch notes right at the start of downtime, go get that coffee! Everything looks great, look forward to testing the new UI. Only question I have is what the drop boxes are that are referenced in this note:
  • Visual improvements have been made to the Dropboxes.

  • Skybox and Galaxy Background has been updated to be more vibrant, and to closer match Horizons.
This sounds like an improvement, but it's a bit disappointing to look at the Rendering bug fixes week after week and only see these kinds of workarounds to the rendering issues instead of the engine devs addressing the root cause.

The problem isn't the brightness or darkness of individual components of the scene, it's an incorrect rendering pipeline that is losing information about bright/dark light. Think of it like using a camera in the wrong exposure setting (ISO/shutter speed); but in this case it's losing information both in underexposed and overexposed cases (likely incorrect HDR).

Very nice list on fixes! Thanks much :) ...

I only wanted ask / bring attention to bug in missions rewarding (usually materials/data are not rewarded after succesfull mission completion - there is only very few mission types affected, but they are offered quite regularly and need plenty time for completion) which it seems is not listed above and very likely still not patched therefore.

https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/35486 is one from confirmed reports and there is at least another one confirmed and numerous other not confirmed yet.

Odyssey have quite "grindy" requierements for upgrading suits or weapons and it really is not pleasing for players when after mission completion do not receive chosen reward.

I wanted to post this 40 times!
Kit Fowler's invitation requirement has been reduced from 40 Opinion Polls sold at bartenders to 20.

It's still 15 too many.

Now I need 5 more... I wonder if they increased the spawn/drop rate for this piece of data or left it as is.

"A fix has been implemented for z-fighting that could be seen on a Chemical prop."

That pesking z-fighting, always grabbing the attention.

Great list though, looking forward to getting back into the game.

My sentiments also - while I'm a complete noob in the field I can't shake the feeling that FDev are attempting to fix the symptoms rather than the root cause.

Reminding me of this:

Thanks Sally for the timing and comprehensiveness of the patch notes.

Thanks a whole lot to the Dev team for churning out so many fixes in such a short time! I hope the Red Bull, take-out and coffee bills are well covered by the overtime bonusses from Fdev.

So, has there been a fix regarding combat bonds not counting towards codex stats and Juri's unlock? Was this ignored despite "cmdr codex stats" being a focus of this week's update, or is a fix regarding this issue in the mini patch that tends to follow these bigger patches? Kinda making two engineers impossible to unlock, both Juri and The Sarge. While I understand that generally those two rarely come into use, it's still a bug that follows the supposed "focus" of the patch. Also no, I'm not the only one noticing this issue, many reports have been made on the issue tracker alongside many contributions from players with many saying it's been bugged since odyssey release.
