@sallymorganmoore just FYI, whenever there's a server shutdown notification in game, if you then quit the game to desktop, 100% of the time the shutdown of the game hangs on black screen and must be forced closed by task manager.
This is something that has happened since as long as I can remember. And I'm not the only one that has it happen to them
Edit: This isn't limited to Odyssey. It has always happened, even before Odyssey.
Would be also nice to get the real error names instead of various colorful ship names ( in case there are several error codes assigned to the color)
Know what, a few of you have said this now and although it was a "hmmmm" let's see...no there's definitely something else, this may also be a contributing factor as you all say! There still looks like there might be something else contributing, which we're looking into regardless, but this is really helpful.
Sorry to the earlier commander I said "Naww it looks like something else" to. It DOES still look like something else isn't helping, BUT this could well be (and looks to be) a contributing factor too! Amazing work for helping look into it, everyone!

Yeah my files validated without any issue. This Orange Sidewinder issue is unrelated to file validation.Can confirm it is not a Steam issue - unless you all just fixed it - I play via Steam and am in the game right now.

For those stuck on "Preparing for Update", go to the launchers options dropdown and uncheck "Enable cache check", then restart the launcher (force quitting if necessary) and retry the validation process from the launcher.I tried this, but the launcher is stuck on "Perparing for Update" now.... ... nothing works...
