@sallymorganmoore !! you're a legendary one.

I've been pretty salty since Odyssey released, but watching you work in this thread after Update 4 gives me some hope there might be some left at FDev that gives me a minor shred of hope for the future of ED.

I hope you're getting seriously well supported by your team and from those in your management. And if there is such a thing in the company, someone really needs to give you a certificate of bravery for the way you've been dealing with issues since Odyssey released.

So...every time I try to land on a moon or planet, dropping out of cruise, the game hangs and there it is...Orange Sidewinder... what?
It's not my internet connection, no way the problem is on my side. Anyone having the same issue ?

Yeah I agree completely. This seems to be an issue with Steam. Happy to hear you're in now! If anyone is looking for a Level 3 Manticore Executioner, I found them for sale in Gabriel Enterprise in Harma for 4m cretids upon logging in today. Limited stock though.

Weird question, does steam download anything (is there any updates) for non-odyssey owners? do the orange sidewinder errors only affect odyssey owners?

Sorry to the earlier commander I said "Naww it looks like something else" to. It DOES still look like something else isn't helping, BUT this could well be (and looks to be) a contributing factor too! Amazing work for helping look into it, everyone!

My 10 pence

  • Steam Update installed fine but got the errors like everyone else
  • Verified the integrity of the installation files via Steam but still getting the error - Note: This didn't "re-download" the update as some have reported

Maybe it's all that PUSH onboard 🤔

I did the validate game files thing and completed successfully, but still getting Orange Sidewinder. So it doesn't resolve the issue for everyone.

my game did not get the update client stuck on update 3 says game is up to date hit play splash screen displays then the forever loading circle

Tried verifying files via Steam and nothing happened, constant Orange Sidewinder and no extra downloads.

I verified my game via the Launcher and it downloaded some files and now I can play again. Thanks CMDR.

Right, you lovely lot - thank you all for this. While you've been narrowing it down to steam and we've been doing additional tidy up, we are definitely getting somewhere with a more solid fix than you having to work it out yourselves. Huge o7

SOLUTION FOR STEAM USERS:
  • Start Launcher from Steam
  • Launcher Options-> ED Cache disabled!
  • Launcher Options -> Validate Game Files (NOT FROM STEAM, FROM ED LAUNCHER!)
  • Launch Oddyssey and play (y)

Alright. Verified integrity of game files on steam 100% successfully, but the same issue persists: Orange Sidewinder on attempting to continue game, textures on ship not loading in the menu screen, game extras not reacting to button presses and exiting game leaves it stuck on a black screen.

Oke this is starting to be really frustrating. I have been asking the same questions over and over again. Questions that worry me and a lot of other commanders. I have been asking it on the forum and on the stream over and over again. I'm tired of not getting answers. How can you expect me and many other commanders to continue playing the game if we can't even be sure of the future of Elite Dangerous?

Try read up a bit there was a workaround from one user. Also I launched Horizon through steam completely bypassed the Orange Sidewinder issue
