Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 4

yep same here , kinda feel invisible , yet one of the streamers posted 3 questions here this morning and has had a reply on each one of them .
sigh....

Not making favourites! Honest! What I am doing is focusing on the very nasty deal breakers from the update which they happened to raise too - The Orange Sidewinder issue (still rife) and the missing missions. As you can see we're on page 36 and I am desperately trying to get people in game before hopefully getting around to more awesome feedback from you super lot. Thanks for bearing with me!

Oke this is starting to be really frustrating. I have been asking the same questions over and over again. Questions that worry me and a lot of other commanders. I have been asking it on the forum and on the stream over and over again. I'm tired of not getting answers. How can you expect me and many other commanders to continue playing the game if we can't even be sure of the future of Elite Dangerous?
Sorry - what are the questions again?

There are literally thousands of players out there who have questions. Just be patient and look what others ask too. I'm sure your questions have already been answered. And if not they will be answered eventually. :)

Well, would you look at that. 4k, between high/ultra, SS=.85 (screenie resized in paint for upload)

At SS=1 its ~42 FPS. It does have weird drops down to 30 FPS at which point I need to go back to main menu and log back in. So there is something wonky throttling performance, but 4k ultra @ 60 should be perfectly possibly with some additional work.

I don't think there IS an answer to your question. We will find out in a few months as Odyssey is fixed.
Yes but that doesn't give anyone confidence. All I want to know is, if Odyssey is not on the same level as Horizons currently is of there would be any chance to not merge so I can be sure it works fine like before.

SOLUTION FOR STEAM USERS:
  • Start Launcher from Steam
  • Launcher Options-> ED Cache disabled!
  • Launcher Options -> Validate Game Files
  • Launch Oddyssey and play (y)
This worked for me:

  • Uncheck "Enable Virtual Cache" in "Options" in the ED Launcher itself
  • Click "Validate Game Files" in "Options in the ED Launcher itself
  • wait until the launcher is done with the process
  • Launch Odyssey and connect to the game
  • No more Orange Sidewinder

Can confirm verifying my files with the launcher fixed my Orange Sidewinders! Thanks for working so hard ya'll.

Also Sally, while we got you here, an issue that doesnt seem to have gotten reported alot (a few people have, but its not getting alot of responses) is that it seems a major source of the FPS slowdowns in Odyssey seem to be caused by windows/glass objects/anything with transparency added with the expac (as high as 30 FPS loss). I dont like posting directly like this but I feel it might necessary because just looking away from glass in stations or the glass part of reactor cores (like at my feet) gets me stable 60 FPS.

Ooo..nono this is interesting and all adds to the helpfulness! Great that it's ticketed up too. Thank you so much!

This worked for me also, took a while though but I an now able to run the game.
Performance seems improved as well.

Ever since Odyssey came out I've been completely unable to patch (this isn't just related to todays installer issues). Any attempt to patch just fills my client.log with:

20210617/111435: { "action" : "DownloadedDataMismatch", "Downloaded" : "484013a7dc50c830425cd39fb0127424737cf422", "Expected" : "8cbf5c71e526a5541a39aa47d7fa570a0f248dc6", "LocalFile" : "C:\Users\REDACTED\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments\Products\elite-dangerous-odyssey-64\Win64\0d\d0146c614de6657f7a2f4854f1a621fa560e30a1", "RemoteFile" : "http://cdn.zaonce.net/elitedangerou...nal/8c/bf5c71e526a5541a39aa47d7fa570a0f248dc6", "date" : "20210617", "time" : "111435" } ;

And the patch never progresses. I've tried every solution listed elsewhere for this issues (different combinations of all the launcher options, deleting part files, resetting IE cache, excluding from AV monitoring etc.) and nothing works. The only way I can download a patch is to clean install the game every time. Sometimes that doesn't work first time either, I have had most luck using a VPN to download a clean install each patch via the USA.

Don't suppose anyone has any ideas how to fix this?

wow this sucks really...
stupid idea... have you tried to use external dns providers like 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1?

Verifying files from the ED launcher (rather than Steam itself) fixed it for me. Didn't have to change anything to so with the cache.

Of course missions have timed out which is a bummer...
