Elite turning into Eve?

Hello everyone, I've been reading the forums for a while and i'm starting to fear that the ED community is starting to morph into EVE mentality, besides there seem to be quite some old EVE players around (not that i'm saying its bad)
I'm former eve player, almost 3 years, started mining, then pve then pvp, joined a corp, participated in the Fountain War, not part of the goons and the rest is history.

Anyways, i see that people have a tendency to blind themselves when others post constructive criticism, or mention thing that they don't like or work well for them.
Attacking the OP in a subtle or direct manner, is not going to help, and I don't think its correct or wise to act in such manner, we are helping in a way to develop a game with our feedback and we as testers are starting a new community, with a new game, we should not fall into the "brat" attitude present on EVE online.

Also, i don't understand why some people like to go against instead of being constructive, acting like they have the last word on the subject. Only the devs have the last word on anything in the game.

One recent example : Mining

"First of all, mining is not perfect, and if you find it fun that is you, 1, a minority". Then when somebody posts something about it, stating elements that could be improved, many jump to contradict them saying things like " Mining is perfectly fun for me" . The thing you are a minority, and you know its not perfectly fun. So it would be better to be proactive and think for the community instead of being a selfish "brat"?
Some would tend say "NOOO TRACTOR BEAMS!!!, BRABEN SAID SO!(and its not realistic)" Well then why not think of alternatives, instead of staying with the basic stuff? That would be constructive.

Anyways, is Elite going to the EVE(L) side ? we should think about what is happening around here, vets or not, Elite should not be like and old game but a new experiences for all. ( being that the game is hard, or easy) Good gameplay is good gameplay, and bad gameplay will be always bad. Stop trying to mask things for your benefit and instead help the Devs improve them with ideas and constructive criticism.

Well more clarification around, my post title is "Elite turning into EVE?" @deusx_oph
I'm not trolling.
I'm a bit concerned about some of the behavior in the forums that reminded me of EVE community.
I wanted to share my concern.

I'm not comparing or discussing gameplay between Elite and EVE. @Rankaze

I'm not saying Elite is the same as EVE @Rankaze

I'm not saying that we should have TRACTOR BEAMS or the game to be dumbed down. @Krait_79

I'm not saying mining is (fun/not fun) - it was and rehash example of comments said out there. @Krait_79 @Niewinter


This little experiment of a post shows some of the automatic defensive reactions I've seen around in other posts. So far the whole idea in the post was missing, and the comments are only attacking or dissing what i'm was not talking about.
The main point is the behavior of the community turning eve like and not being CONSTRUCTIVE ,absolutely nobody commented about it.

Irony? not really, i'm very clear of everything. Sure my post says some things about some topics, but i'm not saying they are a given. The mining example is just that, a sample of some of the things going on. I never said i liked or disliked mining in Elite, nor i am assuming i know all the statistics if the game is fun or not. That example about mining could have been about or against the subject.

Your reply is evidence of the attitude i mention on my post. i never in the whole post Said "that what i'm stating is a fact or that i'm all knowing."

I clearly stated " I fear that Elite community is morphing into EVE" meaning i'm sensing it, perceiving it, feeling it, and that i'm not quite sure if that is or not the matter. Then i proceed to explain why i feel that why, which is clear its an opinion looking for feedback.

Then of course, my post was not about Mining, since you quoted. It was about the brat attitude and that we should stay away from becoming EVE 2.0 community wise.

i know Elite is the father of many space games, but i'm not talking about which game came first mate, its more about the community attitude in some posts.

I probably should have stated that the mining part is a quick rehash on some of the comments i've seen around on the subject.

yes, clarification is always a good thing ^^

this community has for the last 2 years (since i'm around) been very welcoming. very much unlike most game forum community, almost genteel. however, given that there a new records of active posters broken with every new major update and the numers of ED testers skyrocketing (200k+ best guess), there is little surprise this place will get a bit more of the rought & tumble play.

you still have the opportunity to lead by example this more than anything will keep the great & friendly atmosphere here.

I don't understand how you can compare two games that have completely different gameplay mechanics just because the action happens in space.
If you want to compare Eve to something, compare it to World of Warcraft. They share much more in common even if under different skins.

Only thing I see here is anyone who wants to sensationalize their particular gripe on these forums seems to want to invoke the terrible specter of EVE. I see people doing this on both sides of the same argument half the time.

The games are very little alike, aside from being set in space.

Find a new scare tactic already.

what should be done about minig has been postet several times but everytime i post thinhs to make mining better without magical tractor beam a new tread opens with how bad mining / network/ game it self is.

how to make the game / mining better?
1. mining /survey scanner
2. better overview of were to mine what
3. search function for ship parts
4. better coop implemantaion ( slaved hyper/ supercruise drives)
5. coop interdictions
ect. ect.

im so tiered of posting this agai and again and again.
is the game finished? no it is not. is it fun to test/play? yes it is.

this is ofcourse just my oppinion but im not a minority im just not that loud about it.

I think there are enough voices in the DDF and elsewhere, including the wise judgement of FDEV themselves, to ensure a minority of EvE players don't upset the apple cart.

More seriously, there is a very conservative clique on the forums which seems more interested in making new members conform than in discussion of the game design. There seems to be a bit of a disconnect between those who have joined during beta thinking that the game was still being moulded and those who regard the game design as complete and the beta purely as a testing phase for the code. I honestly don't know which is right, but I will admit to assuming the Beta phases would include some design changes as the test progressed.

Beyond that, there are the holy warriors who are use the DDA as scripture and are quite ready to engage in Jidhad over perceived blasphemy... but they're easy to spot

I think the OP really needed better thought, I've actually posted extensively on this topic and have a few threads of my own on it.

I think it has a reasonably healthy community.

The players want the best from it and I'm sure the dev's want that even more. We can all go off on a tangent every now and then. Thing is to keep it as polite as possible, then at least it remains a community. Most games that mean anything to its players, have vibrant communities that disagree every now and then.
Those that take it to heart, shouldn't. We all have a common interest, that interest is to have something we all play, to be the best of its type, no more than that really.

You can go much further than that if you take it out of the computer era... As a 3D space adventure on PC Frontier was the first. As soon as you leave the computer based there was havens above P&P in the 60s... and the first chose your own space books in the 50s... I am trying to stay within context

The problem is not a specific community, it's gamers in general. Search and compare forums out there and you'll soon see what i mean.

There are far too many out there who will not admit their short comings and put in effort to improve. Instead you see threads demanding this or that to be nerfed or buffed.

Regarding tractor beams then. How exactly would the improve things? At the moment i have to line my ship up with the rocks and gather them up. This is fun as it takes a degree of skill. Just sitting there whilst everything is sucked in for you just sucks. That sounds boring. Quicker yes but boring. But hey why the hurry? If Elite for you is about making lots of credits as fast as possible then you really are missing the point.

Slow down and embrace and enjoy the experience. I don't get what this rush is!

BTW if they ever do bring in tractor beams then i shall spend my entire multiplayer time patrolling the extraction zones and eliminating by any means necessary anyone i see using one!
