I had seen a bar or restaurant before with a sign which had Yacht on it. So I asked someone where this could be and I pronounced it the German way - that person didn't exchange one other word with me

My favorite language story is form Europe. My wife and I were taking the Thalys from Amsterdam to Paris (maybe 9 or 10 years ago?). The first class section included a meal and they brought us a circular package with some kind of meat in it. I asked the stewardess what it was.... .she looked at me for awhile pensively... and then eventually said "I do not think there is an english word for it"
