I remember reading about the projected release date and some details on it.
If you have a link could you post a few.
I was wondering when we think it is coming
Also
I hear there would not be a wipe after Gamma release (unless something bad happens of course)

Actually I got a new tivo and am copying my play list over and reorganizing it, a very slow and tedious process, mostly I am just killing time in between each step in a very long process. I no longer recommend Tivo to anyone, over priced for life time subscriptions and no transfers to new hardware. you have to re-buy at like $700 +

SHOULD THEY release this game in 2014?

First let me preface this with the fact that I love what they are doing. I have confidence in their ability and have proven their ability time and time again. But reality is setting in. We all want the best for the team and this game.

With that I want your honest opinion.

There are no variables to take into account. Work all of that out yourself inside your head or post them here. But just a simple yes or no.

Should they release this game this year?

Please note - The question is NOT "WILL THEY" the question is "SHOULD THEY"

PS - I want nothing but success for DB and the team and for this to top the charts for years to come. That is why I contributed to the project.

Edit - so far the consensus of the poll shows the majority of people are happy with the game, the direction but think it needs a little more time. It seems that most people will support them in their decisions whether they go forward or not, but we are only afraid of the bad press it will get if it is released too early.

What we're not happy with, find frustrations with, think are infinitesimal to work out and fix, may not be for those ever clever devs.

I don't think the game is ready to be released this year yet, but it's close.

Sadly, they're forced to follow schedules so there's not much we can do :/

They don't have a publisher who forces them to keep to a schedule, so no, they can postpone the release date whenever they want (and when even the fans say "don't rush the game", "take your time", than they won't have to fear negative backlash from anywhere.)

'They' are not forced to follow anything. I have confidence FD will release the game if they think it is ready to be released.

I went with no because there still seems to be a fair bit of work to get it where I hope they will be at release and I'd rather they not rush it out the door. I've seen that far too many times in the past. It is shaping up so well it would be a real shame to screw it up at the last hurdle. I hope they don't have too much pressure on them to release this year, for whatever reason.

Well, if they polish whats already here, and add wingmen and LDS slaving. Maybe make playing with friends a little bit easier. Where you can actually interdict together and join instances together both against other players and NPCs. And add 25 flyable ships. I would be happy with a release in December, but it doesnt really matter. The game will be finished when its finished. There are constant upgrades and new patches so we will always have a great game to play. But getting it out for Christmas may be a good marketing tool. But maybe 2015 is a better bet for a full release. People can always buy the Beta or Gamma and still have a great time :)

To both who said they aren't forced due to "no publisher", things don't work out just like that, they have schedules, and money isn't unlimited.

They wouldn't keep the idea of "this will be released this year" by now (end of October), if they didn't had their own reasons.

They may not have a publisher, but they have share holders, which can be worse in some cases. Not that I care much, but they probably do.

I think, get it out there, its pc gaming, supporting it is the issue and I'm sure they will support it.

Exactly. We were all surprised of the quality of Beta 3 and how fast they output their patches (two patches in one day? really?)
So, I do think some you guys still underestimate what the devs at FD are capable of.

this. this game will not be finished with release, its different to "normal" box releases where a publisher fires 90% of the staff after the master is pressed. FD will work on ED on FULL STEAM even after release.

to many options missing in the poll. Of course I want it out next coming month... but, not if in a broken state :) So if it's 2015, might it the be 2015... who cares :) Beta still going on, I can fly, trade, bug.... oups.... well.... sometimes :)

Yes if it's stable, no if it isn't at all stable...

Elite will be released to Gamma in 2014 and then will be in ongoing development (with our help and participation) until Frontier are happy with it for a full commercial release in 2015.
They will then continue to add to and improve the game while developing the expansions.
