Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

With the soon release of cloud tech, a small list of the next awaited graphical techs :
  • basins (Q3 2021 on the roadmap)
  • rivers/roads (preliminary work finished, Q3 2021 to Q1 2022)
  • rivers/basins of lava (Q1 2022)
  • underwater rendering for fauna/flora (Q1 2022)
  • better and deeper canyons (no card but it's worked atm)
  • snow displacement, tracks in snow (Q4 2021)
  • Aaron Halo gateways (Q1 2022)

There is one important tech that CIG does not talk about : star tech. For now, Stanton star is just a bland circle of light.
Long ago, a dev said they wanted to do something special for it (with coronal mass ejection and specific gameplay) but I can't find the source.

Yay, only 4 years late ;)
Tout vient à point à qui sait attendre :p

Ah ha! More hygiene tech!

When FDEV talk about adding a fundamental core tech (FPS) for EDO few said that it was insane. It was more "they have a stable base, they can add now another tech".
CIG is doing the same, but on a long term alpha instead of a released product. Which way is the correct one ? For what I see of EDO, I think CIG do it right.

They're many years into development of a multiplayer game and their supposed 'proper' multiplayer funtionality isn't implemented.

This is completely different to ED/EDO, whatever your thoughts on EDO are as ED itself has not changed. FPS was always extended gameplay. It uses the same netcode (as far as I'm aware), engine, and all that other stuff as the core game.

Core gameplay, ladies and gentlemen!

No, you can't add FPS to ED without modifying the core tech. Adding FPS can't be simply transforming a ship/rover to a toon. And for what we saw, FDEV at least deeply changed the planet tech and the light engine for adding FPS.

Core gameplays are also on the roadmap. If you dont want to go there, I can copy paste it here...
The next ones are about loot and refuel.

They don't and this doesn't, they are clouds.
I would think that the multiple (and massive) storms that can be seen from crusader’s orbit would wipe any pretty slowly moving “mountain-like” cloud.

Crusader looks pretty similar to Jupiter which have, to my knowledge, a pretty turbulent atmosphere with “jet streams” and what not…

Anyone has the phone number of Neil Degrasse Tyson? I would like to have a word with him

I'm afraid he's singing about black holes at the moment:

But yeah, def wanna see what the lower cloud layers are like close up. If they've managed to have cloud movement and/or flight through them (with pressure risks), that'd tick enough boxes for me though, on a gameplay front. (Not that red-spot size vortexes and the like wouldn't be cool ;))

Not modelling the pipe systems under pressure is not very fidelicious, is it? I thought CIG were doing things right?

Pipes burst before a shell crumbles under pressure..

It was me and I was wrong (i was just mistakenly testing the limit of the old Pcache). But my mistake doesn't change the fact that icache is something that CIG is putting a lot of work in, that this tech is needed for a lot of flow in SC and that SM need it to be released.

We all make mistakes.

I've said it before in this thread, in reality you would not get anywhere near that close, as close as you see in the video, to Jupiter, if you did it would probably look pretty similar, it is a giant ball of clouds. And you certainly wouldn't have space whales living in it. not that there is such a thing.

Frankly i don't care, its not meant to be a space sim in the accurate sense, that would be really boring anyway, in reality space is very empty and about 99% of what is there doesn't like you getting close to it.
Its science fiction, fantasy. i'm all in for that :)

PS: watch Jupiter Rising, completely absurd, great film.

"Modifying core tech yes, like adding a performance mod to an otherwise functioning vehicle, but this is a fundamental part of the core tech. This would be like building the transmission last, and then trying to fit it into the engine block while keeping the car running at the same time.

But seriously, how are they still working on the Vanduul combat animations for Squadron 42 :)
This. Most of these components are absolutely essential to the most basic of core elements, and this from a company that claimed in 2014 that Squadron 42 was right around the corner, and that several people had already played all of the levels. That, alone, should make anyone pause.

Why wouldn't they? Animations can be worked on until the last months of development.
I don't think even the most dreamy citizen of the stars is expecting Squadron 42 to come any time soon.

On the other hand more and more CMDR's are looking for their "Armstrong Moment" elsewhere...
