Can someone explain how I pay off a fine? i have yet to figure this one out...do I log in to horizons, pay the fine at an interstellar faction and then log back into Odyssey? How daft is that.

I'm pretty sure that's twice now I have wound up at a detention center without my ship, FD. Just FYI
Mechanic needs a second pass.

Apexed back to the jurisdiction, used Inter Astra to call my ship to the station, had to then clean it there at the bounty office (at least it respawned me in port).

That’s exactly what I have been saying… I die on foot, my ship wasn’t involved in the crime, just parked at the base. I ended up in detention, but the ship was not. I had to Apex back, and only to find my ship was hot. Then, I had hand myself in again. and had to fly back again In order to continue my quest.

It’s like a 5 years old got hold of the dungeon master hammer…. Got you…. Got you again… STOP being a pest!

Taking the Apex back is fine, I like this mechanic actually. It's especially good if your ship doesn't have a decent jump range like most of mine don't.

The problem comes in when you get back and enter your ship and then you have the bounty back on your head. You should pay off the bounty at the detention centre, which in turn clears the bounty from all your ships. It stands to reason that if the bounties are tied to the commander, not the ships, that the ships wouldn't have a bounty anymore if the commander doesn't.

Is anyone actually able to pay these interstellar (fed, imp, alliance) bounties off at an Interstellar Factor? I've tried fly off into imp space to get rid of it, but it just doesn't show up as something I can pay off.

Note that this is NOT a bounty from a minor faction. I can pay those off just fine.

To get rid of it I have to go and turn myself in, which is a bit ridiculous. I was trying to avoid it, but I'm just going to have to resort to logging into horizons to pay them off :(

I'm still trying to figure out how the system works (don't have Odyssey yet). My bgs Corvette has billions in bounties. If I get killed in Odyssey flying another clean ship of mine, in another system where I'm clean, does my Corvette (parked on my carrier) get impounded? Do I have to pay the billions to have it back??

They really should give you a one time choice to wipe your bounties if they are changing the crime system that much...

You can't pay them in Odyssey. You have to relog into Horizons to pay them.

I'll test it. Give me an hour

Well, you're in luck - I just botched a heist and had to mass murder my way out of there.

Firstly, as they described, bounty is tied to the CMDR now. This is my on-foot transactions menu
1623599611607.png

  • Viper A - Rebuy Cost 622k
  • Viper B - Rebuy Cost 622k
  • Sidewinder - Rebuy cost 1558
  1. Go kill people at settlement, get into Viper A
  2. Land at starport owned by now dead people
  3. Talk to Inter Astra - Viper A is wanted in this jurisdiction
  4. Good

  1. Apex to Anarchy home to pick up Viper B
  2. Talk to Inter Astra - Viper A transfer is available at premium cost (30 Ly, 46k)
  3. Get in Viper B Instead
  4. Fly Viper B to clean, lawful port
  5. Viper B is not flagged as dirty
  6. Buy Sidewinder, load it up with biowaste

  1. Interdicted by bounty hunter, take one for the team
  2. He shoots first, but does not reigster dirty
  3. I die clean
    1623600518578.png

  4. Respawn is at local port
  5. Still wanted
    1623600737676.png
  6. Viper A still dirty, Viper B still clean

  1. Time to die and go to jail.
  2. CMDR still wanted in the other system, I will go go out and get in trouble outside local clean starport in clean Viper B
  3. Die wanted this time
    1623601294188.png
  4. Legal costs are only for my local crimes
    1623601358929.png
  5. Viper B has dirty symbol, and respawn point is a Penal Colony
    1623601390407.png
  6. Upon respawn, I am still wanted in other jurisdiction. Viper B is clean.
    1623601586159.png

  1. Fly to Interstellar Factor and get clean
  2. Fly back to system where dirty Viper A is stored... Viper A is now clean?
    1623602597366.png

I guess I should have tried a transfer first.

To be continued...

OK.... reset the scenario. Viper A dirty, stored in a port where wanted. Flew to another jurisdiction in clean eagle, shot an auth ship, killed and sent to prison.

Ship wanted and premium transfer.... but I don't want to move it here to the penal. Let me go find a normal, lawful place to move it to. So I am Apexing back to a system within 20 Ly of my Wanted/Dirty system and will see how much it costs for the transfer.

@Shir
Cost is only slightly higher to get my dirty Viper transferred. And the ship is 100% usable.
This is in a lawful jurisdiction next door to the lawful jurisdiction where both it and I are wanted.

So, the moral of the story is:
  1. You have the bounty.
  2. Your ships can be dirty in jurisdictions where you have a bounty.
  3. You can fly a clean ship in a jurisdiction where you have a bounty, and the ship will not automatically be flagged as dirty (I presume it will be on scan or crime)
  4. No matter where you go outside of jurisdictions where the ship is dirty, you can freely transfer the ship for a slightly increased cost and you can also freely use the ship.
  5. I have no idea if cost scales with the amount of combined bounties.
  6. When you clear the bounty for a jurisdiction, your ships will also be cleaned for that jurisdiction. (Answers your main question)

  • The player will not be able to transfer these ships or take them out until they pay a 'release fee' (This is a portion of the rebuy cost for that ship)
This seems to be broken. I was never asked to pay a release fee.

Thanks for taking the time to do all these tests! The official post mentioned all your dirty ships getting impounded when you die. But that didn't happen in your scenario, did it?

It did not. I think it's another intended but broken mechanic. All I had to pay was a little extra for the ship transfers.
The game never even mentioned anything about them being impounded.

Also, my assumption is that Anarchy shipyards haven't changed - so we should be able to use those without ever having to pay anything.

Ship Impounding:
  • When a player spawns in a Detention Centre all Hot Ships the player owns will be 'Impounded' at their current locations.
  • The player will not be able to transfer these ships or take them out until they pay a 'release fee' (This is a portion of the rebuy cost for that ship)
  • If the player was in a hot ship that was destroyed, it is not impounded, the player simply pays their rebuy and their ship will be clean when they respawn.
  • If a player was killed on foot and their active ship was hot, they will not have to pay for its rebuy, however the ship will be impounded at the Detention Centre.
We hope this gives a little more insight into how your Odyssey activities will affect your galaxy.

Hi Paul. How can I pay this release fee? There is an icon of my ship over a planet on the system map, but when I zoom in I can't find it (the icon) on any settlement... There is no recovery or fee option at Inter Astra, neither is there one in the Administrative/Authority contact list in a terminal. There is nothing in the Codex about this new C&P addition either.

According to the above, it could be at the detention centre, but how can I find out which one?

How do I get my ship back - is my question I guess :D

Only way I know of is to take apex to any point on the surface then recall your ship, since it goes into orbit when you die. It would be nice to have a recovery service.

Four patches in and things are STILL not working the way Mr. Paul Crowther describes in his post. Is this getting fixed? Do the devs even KNOW that this isn't working properly?

I have never not even once had my ship be available to fly out of a detention center. I have had to take APEX out of the detention center. Every. Time.
