Hi all,

Just a quick public service announcement for any EDO players planning to join in on the current CG. Many of you are probably aware that you can't sign up for CGs in Odyssey and that the work around is to launch the game in Horizons to sign up. Contributions in either horizons or Odyssey count as normal afterwards.

I ran into some issues with the current CG and want to give other players a heads up to take some precautions to avoid a similar issue.

  1. Back up your key bindings
    1. I lost mine launching horizons
    2. I lost them again launching Odyssey
  2. Beware of launching Horizons if you have any hot ships
    1. I had 3 ships docked in different systems with assorted fines/bounties on each
    2. I was in a clean ship 1000 ly from each the closest hot ship
    3. I had no fine/bounties on my CMDR
    4. After launching horizons and the switching back to Odyssey I noticed the cumulative fines/bounties of all my stashed hot ships were shown as active on my transaction menu.
Suffice to say, my paper hull/barely shield exploration/salvage ship isn't making the trek to collect guardian items with Millions in active bounties/fines on my head. Not a big deal but an inconvenient deviation from the plan I had tonight. Hopefully this helps others avoid similar pitfalls.

Can't sign up? I went to [starport services]-[mission board]-[community goals] and then signed up with a faction. Shows me as signed up. Where is the problem there?

I was able to sign up just fine when playing ODY. The game saves 3.0 and 4.0 keybinds in separate files, they should not be overwritten but as 'tabulous said you might have to re-select your custom keybinds from the controls menu.

Protip: If you rename the Custom.4.0.binds and Custom.3.0.binds to something more like My Binds.4.0.binds and My Binds.3.0.binds then you will never lose them.
Switching between Horizons<->Odyssey might swap to a different bind profile so you just have to re-select My Binds one each time but that's it, your keybinds are safe.
(This happens because the bindings are now split into 4 categories in Odyssey - StartPreset.start file uses each of 4 lines to store the selected profiles while Horizons requires the file to have only one line)

Those same exact steps resulted in no active CGs being displayed. Like a lot of things in EDO. Sometimes it works for some people. In this case you got lucky whereas my streak of EDO bug free play ended. A transient annoyance and not open letter worthy as the fashions of the forums dictate.

Its probable you are right that the custom binds were available and just needed to be re-selected. I may have been too quick to judgement here.

As for the 2nd feedback for hot ship behavior being outlined in the patch notes. That may very well be the case. That doesn't lessen the validity of raising the awareness for this behavior whether expected or not. I skim patch notes for whats relevant.

Everyone I play with is on Odyssey so the need to switch to horizons seemed moot at the time. It's a lot more relevant only now when I needed to launch in horizons just to contribute to the current CG. Thanks for calling out that it's working as intended. All the same, it caught be off guard. Hence the PSA for the benefit of others.

Weird - like others have said I've had no problems signing-up for Community Goals in ODY. Last week's and this one. By chance I know I did sign-up on mission boards outside of the CG system - then went to the system to participate, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

The problem is completing the CG when it's completed. There was/is no button in the interface to complete the CG. You had to log into Horizons in order to complete it, not start it.

I created the bug report for it in the Issue Tracker two or three CGs ago. I haven't tried since, frankly because I haven't logged in to do another CG since then.
