Odyssey: Rent-An-SRV for On-Foot Players

To aid players who play purely on-foot, I propose that there be away to rent an SRV to aid in the exploration of a planet.

One way I can think of doing this is by talking to someone at Apex and arrange for a ship large enough to carry an SRV to transport you to a destination on a planet. You would then have the option to deploy in an SRV when you get out of the ship. In addition to that, for when you're already on a planet, instead of just being able to remotely call in a ship for transport to another location, you'll also be able to remotely rent and arrange the delivery of a SRV. If you remotely rent a SRV, a ship will come flying down to you shortly and drop off a SRV for you to use.

Another way I can think this working is if settlements had a SRV Garage structure. Inside this structure a few SRVs are stored, and by interacting with a nearby terminal you can pay the settlement a sum of credits to rent an SRV. Of course you would also be able to steal an SRV illegally, which could have dire consequences for you as the settlement will become hostile if you try to do that and you'll get fined (or perhaps a bounty on your head?).

If you rent an SRV you'll be able to drive around with it and do with it and use it for whichever purposes you want to, for the duration of your stay on that planet. Once you're done with the SRV you can just leave it there, Apex and the settlements you rented it from will come collect it on their own time by following its locator beacon once you've had your way with it and gone off-world. But if you let the SRV get destroyed you will get a small fine to pay for the damages. If you steal an SRV you will also get fined, and the SRV will be marked as stolen property. Loading a rented SRV onto your ship also counts as stealing it, and you'll need to "clean" it and pay the fines if you don't want to suffer the consequences.

SRV bay is fitted by default on the starting Sidewinder, so it should not be a problem to fit one on Apex Adders.

I like this idea. Making possible to leave a planetary port aboard a SRV could be pretty nice (with a timer to clear the base trespass zone).

Wait SRVs count as tresspassing? I was on an assassination mission last night and was sure I had a bounty so crazy me landed 8.5KM away from a settlement and drove all the way in across the bumpiest terrain I've ever seen and I never got a warning. Maybe it was because I was allied with them and every guard and the defences show up green?

Oh yes, of course even Sidewinders can carry SRVs. facepalm

My typical MO is to auto-land on the pad if it's big enough, drop out in the SRV (works on Odyssey settlement pads) then dismiss the ship to safety, preemptively in case it goes pear-shaped.

And my typical parking spot is on the roof of a building.

Have yet to incur SRV trespassing.
