State of the Game

We networked the original Doom on the universities computer network in the computer room (remember when that was a thing?!?) unbeknownst to the powers that be for months... happy days...
I had a key to the computer rooms as I doubled as admin while getting my education :)
And I still remember the face of my mum when we occupied the kitchen with 4 computers and friends on friday evenings...

Our first full copy of Doom was given to us by our Maths teacher in secondary, who doubled up as the optional Computer Science subject teacher.

Since our little gang was way ahead of the rest of the students, we usually were done before half-time with whatever Pascal programming task was the order of the day. So one day we had our floppy disks with the Doom shareware and asked if, since we were done, we could install it to show it to our friend who still only had his Atari ST at home. Not only did he let us do it, but when he came to watch afterwards, he laughed at the shareware version and told us "lulz, peasants. I haz full copy" (possibly paraphrased). And he brought it for us at the next session.

That's when I knew I wanted to teach Computer Science. Funnily enough, I had his son as one of my students in college during my Ph.D.

So you are saying Lego is not for adults?

i made this comparison, because the original building primitives (prims) used in SL where things like box, cylinder, sphere, prisma and so on - eventually tapered, cut and/or twisted as well as stretched. This reminded me of LEGO pieces. But SL has meanwhile a lot of different ways to build stuff especially meshes, which aren't predefined prims anymore.

Considering closing this thread when it gets to 1000 pages
(could be in a couple of hours :D )

Are you sure that is a safe idea? Imagine the hullabaloo if we were all pushed back into the normal threads, especially after what is going to be a bad day for game news. The results could be horrifying Ian, could you really live with yourself if that happened?

Do you think he's buying my story?

Do you know if he was a relative of mine? With poor spellingz like that, I'm surprised he didn't haz your stuphs.
