VR - First Person On Foot VR Works in Odyssey

First, I'd like to thank everyone that put in the effort getting this working. I can very much appreciate the passion required to invest this much work into something like this. :)

That being said, my experiences with this are identical to every other "minimal effort" port of 2D games: extremely frustrating to use, and nausea inducing during anything but the gentlest of movements. For me, at least, the on-foot VR experience needs to be proper on-foot VR: a room-scale interface complete with motion controllers, and all the tricks developers have long known about which minimize nausea during rapid movements.

Enjoy it while it lasts. I fully expect them to slip an "fixed an unintended way to operate the camera suite" pretty soon. Because it's obvious it's unintended.

As for how many FPS views are coded in the game, there's at least 3:
Odyshiy 2d view
Camera suite glitch
SRV turret which is exactly what the majority of VR players speaking here would accept as a compromise.
There's a possibility that in ship view is another view with different logic altogether, but I don't do game programming so I know nothing.

Wait wait waaaaiiit a minute so all the teeeth grinding and crying and whaling was for nothing?

Hah, nah. This is just a novelty, you can’t really play the game like this. It’s the vanity cam.

It does demonstrate nicely that VR on foot is technically feasible for EDO though (performance willing). It just needs a dedicated dev run to tackle the design side (and optimise further).

Guess those gnashing teeth were chomping on something after all ;)

Oh you mean like us package users are struggling with 15 FPS on foot too?

I'm kind'a hoping they just ignore it since you can't really play an entire mission in that mode - leastways I couldn't.

At the moment, I’d just settle for vanity cam in VR working properly. Until Frontier has the time to do proper VR feet, I’d rather do in Odyssey what I did in Horizons while out exploring: slowly push the vanity cam out as far as possible towards what I want a closer look at, and then enjoy a proper, though non-interactive, room-scale experience.

In my experience, a bad VR port is worse than no VR port at all.

I haven't got the 1st person to work yet after messing around with the buttons for 2 hours, but getting it to go into Vanity cam with VR just behind shoulder is WAY better then the crappy 2d flat screen.
I am using the mouse to move around when in Vanity cam and even tho the frame rate is low I am not having any trouble with nausea.
Still it’s amazing to me how close full VR is and the Vanity cam is my go to when exploring.
Heres hopping they fix the Free camera so I get some better screenshots.

If there is going to be a camera fix it stands to reason that this glitch will be removed as well. The over the shoulder cam should still work as being an integral part of the camera suite, but the glitching-into-first-person-view likely won't survive forever.

The free camera is different from the vanity camera, the free camera is for screenshots and recording video vanity camera for seeing your character.

If they removed the 1st person glitch that would be sinful because they would be removing functionality even by acciden.

what would be great if they add the 1st person view by cycling through the camera views.
removing the the glitched view would make Fdev look very bad and upset even more folks.
Throwing more fuel on the VR issue.

They won't be adding anything of the sort. I think they made it pretty clear that they do not currently have the resources to add anything more to their already long list. If anything they will fix this glitch as a current issue but they will certainly not be adding a mode that makes it easy for people to experience full VR. Perhaps I am overly pessimistic but I ditched any and all expectations at this point. Worst thing that can happen is that I will be pleasantly surprised.

And yes the vanity cam is different from the free cam. Sorry in case I sounded as if they were the same thing.

All they would be doing is adding a camera view that seems to already there and I am not saying to do it right away.
Hopefully they just leave it alone for now.
Fdev has a huge opportunity to create good will and dampen much of the fireworks.

This started in another thread, but I'm now wondering if the exemander method of "plinking" the Vanity cam and the HUD toggle keys are part of a "konami code" series of button presses left in there as an easter egg for which we need to find the way to enable the on foot gui / hud / reticule etc....

The default key presses to turn off the holograms on the dashboard of a ships cockpit are CTRL + Shift+ G - has anyone tried pressing them in exemander mode to see if it enables the missing interface elements?

No. Does it work?

What's all this talk about performance being an issue? When Horizons was released performance using the SRV wasn't good. Over time, new video cards were released and things got better.

I purchased a new PC a few weeks ago, but when I got home it was missing the video card. Needless to say the performance wasn't good. The manufacturer forgot to include it and then said "Oh we are dropping all GPU support even though it says on the box it has a GPU". But that's not a problem because over time, new video cards are released and things will get better.

I get your analogy but I don't see how it's relevant to my comment.

My point is that they should simply implement the VR support without worrying about the performance just as they did with VR support in Horizons for the SRV. The performance was initially terrible but playable. It got better with better GPUs.

Moreover, players have various ways of dealing with poor performance. MSFS 2020 runs at 30fps for me in VR on the my Reverb G2. But guess what? It's incredibly smooth.
There are various ways to improve performance in VR. You can have better hardware, lower the settings, motion smoothing, etc. First, deliver the functionality.

What are these rumors I am hearing that the glitch was "fixed" with update 5?

EDIT: Just tried it out and it is working for me the same as it was before.
