Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 5

I have 2 different computers now and can compare, 1050 and 2060. Well, things are much better then it was.
Maybe you should check dust/coolers/ placement on the table so it gets cooled / BIOS ?
Elite is very sensitive for those small things, because it do "spike" calculations. When at some moments it needs x4 calculation power then it was.
I've been keeping an eye on thermals and i'm not where near thermal throttling at any point in time. Also the computer is large tower with plenty of air flow on a table.

So with all these fixes, can someone tell me if all teh functionality and infographics have been restored to Horizons levels? Things like being able to tell what a ship has equipped in the shipyard, the common functions and basic information of a system that was in the tooltip? etc. Because unless and until we get those functions back it's still a nerf to the map and UI system. So are these functions and information at a glance back in some capacity?

Outfitting from storage (on carrier) looks much better then it was in Horizons. Horizons had 2 UI - for shop and for stored modules, Ody has the same basically.
Also Ody has "hidden" sorts avail now, in Horizons had to edit XML files to use it and never touch GUI.
So as I can see changing outfit being docked to own carrier is much better now.

Still there are small not finished things. Like, you cannot tell what SLF are inside couple hangars stored until you install it. Or bottom info screen shows more info BUT, can be scrolled only by joy- pad.

Good question & I agree with your sentiment. It's useable, most of the stuff we had in Horizons is there & the stuff that's missing may not be important to some players. Best to try it out for yourself but personally I think the UI overhaul has been a massive waste of time and getting it to a passable state is not something I'd either congratulate or be proud of.

What I cannot fathom is how any of these changes make the game better for new players (the stated intent). Most of it just seems to slow the player down; I'm exploring & checking the system map takes me twice as long as before (albeing there are more things to look for with the atmospheric landings).

I can put off my deep space exploration mission while this downloads/updates i suppose ;)

I managed to cure the vignette/shaded screen i get at stations when switching to outfitting/livery, by simply being so far away from them that i've no chance to dock with them for the next 4 weeks lol

Thanks for the updates, anyone know federal ranking bug has been corrected? I'm stuck with petty chief for 2 weeks

Okey, it seems "python" is unique case ship now, it does now follow ANY flow in hangar as other ships. Can't click it to check outfit, when inside can't see other ships etc.
It seems it was used for testings and you forgot to disable something conditional.

I'm also getting random extreme stuttering (1-3s) in odyssey settlements after the latest patch, seems to happen fairly reliably when entering/exiting areas in/near/above power centers. Otherwise I would attribute this to terrain work lag, but I already have that turned quite low since patch 4.
Same here ... and the GPU % jumps all over the place while the lag / stuttering is happening. Even setting the graphics to low has no effect .. Its unplayable for me like this .. my GPU was playing the game just fine on a mix of High/ Ultra before todays update

Let's face it -- this game is never going to perform well on current hardware. If there were any low hanging fruit they'd picked them by now. It's rather likely to be a structural problem with their whole architecture, one that they clearly had on the radar all the time during development and which they probably thought would solve itself given time and next gen hardware. It's too bad that the kind of gfx cards needed to run this pile of dogpoop code currently are unobtainable, and that's where things are now. We're more likely to see ship interiors than reasonable performance anywhere soon.

Pretty much the same here - severe stuttering, sometimes even completely frozen for ~5sec - GPU even goes to idle %-wise during these periods. Only in surface settlements. Could play with ok'ish frame rates until todays update, now it is unplayable. Now I have tried every graphics setting, validated game file, even deleted the Graphics folder - no joy.

It performs perfectly well at "high" default on my hardware, which wouldn't even qualify as "current" any more. Whatever issues you're having, it's more nuanced than that.

Apparently it's difficult enough to fix that it still persists after the end of the "roadmap", and also seems to affect a lot of people. However nuanced, my point is that it's a structural problem for which we won't see a fix soon. I do hope I'm wrong, of course.

Well that is a massive fix list, but after just playing 2 CZ, the issue where an enemy is stuck in a building wall or unfindable has still not been addressed. It accrued both times and I was therefore unable to complete the CZ. I raised this in the bug list during the beta.

I seem to have lost my lovely paint job. It has changed from vibrant red to dull black. I would go to my local outfitters, but I'm currently 5000LY into the black and heading out further. Oh well, at least it will be harder for the Thargoids to spot me :)
