I remember editing xf86.cfg and adjusting it to match my monitor timings (good old fashioned CRT screen ).Suse is one year older than DebianBoth came from slackware, Debian because of the atrocious installer of slackware (as if the first Debian one was any better) and Suse because they wanted to supply localised versions. Ah the old Linux days.
For masochists: Try Slackware 1.0.1 (I think is the oldest on their servers) with kernel 0.9![]()

by default the last patch has the AMD thing enabled by default - this knocked a few FPS on mine - As my SS and HM were still set to 1, and then this overhead went on top. (Try setting it back to Normal)

More to following if I get any spare time to faff about, desperately searching for a few more FPS
