Don't know what they did but with update 5 they have completely knackered the game..... I have rebooted it twice... removed my saved games and attempted to start again... but the game just will not load after selecting "Continue".... If Frontier Developments were looking for a way of putting people off playing the game they have found a way....

I can't confirm that, the game has been running much better for me since patch 5. There are still bugs, but basically it's very stable. I wouldn't make too many changes on patch day because some things go away on their own after a few days.
Tried that.... the game has now been reloaded twice... before the second time it took me a while and trying various things before deleting everything.... including manually deleting the actual folders ..after uninstalling through steam.... nothing works ,, the game just will not load... it will allow me to play the training scenario for Odyssey then crashes... I think it may have something to do with the AMD part of the update as I use a Radeon 590RX 8gb card
If you can get as far as the menu, which you appear to be able to, have you tried checking the Graphics settings?
Or raising a Ticket with Frontier Support?
yes.. no issues there... the game is set to ULTRA.. is Horizons it looks very good.... I then discovered after playing Horizons it would let me into Odyssey... but the graphics look awful (on the same settings), they look like graphics did 20 years ago,,, the colours are dreadful and pixilated

I'm having zero problems with my low end all AMD build. In fact I am seeing a minor improvement overall. RX550 Ryzen 5 1500x 16gb ram.

There was a change made in the update to enable some stuff for AMD graphics cards, can't remember what the setting was, but it was enabled by default even on my Nvidia equipped PC. the graphics were crisp but flickery and making me feel a bit sick. I disabled the option and set upscaling to the software system instead of AMD which I don;'t have, and all smooth as silk, actually an improvement.
Get Ccleaner and clean your registry. Stuff gets left behind for @Bottom Hat.
Its a CAS slider for sharpness. I like it at minimum. Its for upscaling to higher resolutions.
In VR I've had to drop settings by as much as 50% just to have it render OK.
Busiest places like orbiting a station that's busy awaiting Docking, or planetside in an srv, are really really bad no matter what res I'm in.
Dropped the res In steam to 2k per lense.
SS at 1.0 and hmd at 1.0
AA smaa
Anisotropic x4
Terrain high.
Most else medium.
This is playable in most situations except the 2 listed above.
