i prefer to think of them as forward thinking ...not wanting to write about children in adult situations so much (being married, sexually assaulted, eaten, d (the d is the only part of a censored word that means non-consensual pvp of privates), murdered, drugged, cursed into an animal form, etc)
they liked writing about victorian society and science fiction all steampunk style before they knew what to call it and such. that sounds about right.
