Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 5

I haven't updated my drivers for over a year and this non-quit to dt seems to have been a feature since patch 5.

Gtx980ti

On a side note, my PC is now completely dead pending an engineer visit. Suspected dead PSU. Which is more annoying by a whole order of magnitude.

Those strong shadows behind the HUD are extremely disturbing. Especially the one behind the info panel that extends down so far and in certain cases blocks the view, looks really as well. Where did the line pattern from Horizons go anyway. There is a very good reason why it was done like that in the first place. SMH

I know my hardware is old now, [...]
No, it is not. Is everyone supposed to spend several thousands on upgrades every other year? The very fact that you think that kind of hardware is already old is a symptom of the disease. What about sustainability, the environment? Just saying. Anyway, I've just checked, one can pick up used 1080Ti's for about 600 EUR on ebay. Judge for yourself on the value of that investment. Developers and software studios are used to get away with writing and releasing noobish, unoptimized code, but this whole odyssey fiasco is a prime example of how that can go wrong.

Might be worth playing with subsampling and AMD FidelityFX if you havent already :

Tried this and blow me down if it don't just go and work! Also in addition to the fps jump by 40%-50%; the rubber band stuttering (concourses) is also +/- 80% improved,
MY QUESTION:
Why in the holy name of hell don't FRONTIER give some pertinent advice on the graphics settings they offer, rather than leaving it ENTIRELY to third parties such as D2EA to impart the wisdom... beats me! (n)

P.S. Thanks D2EA I'm playing the game again due to you sir!!!! (y) o7

Yesterday I checked out several mission types like passenger mission, eliminating some bad guys in settlements and I joined the army in conflict zones in settlements serveral times. Once I got send to prison and had to go back via shuttles. I did not find a single restauration mission though. But technically everything worked fine.

It rendered on a good old GeForce 1070 in Full-HD 1920x1080 with 1.0 supersampling, NO VSYNC (maybe this makes the difference), AMD Fidelity CAS on, FX, ambient occlusion and shadows on medium, but textures and geometry details on max. I set it to 45 Hz and it keeps this most of the time. In rare situations it can go to 40 or even to 35 FPS. But it was playable in general.

I cannot complain on my quite old hardware especially when I see in settlements that almost every button, switch and panel has been modelled in detail and each monitor renders animated content and dynamic relations exist between many of objects.

Probably there is still and always some room for improvents, but I enjoy it on a my system.
Turning off V-Sync was the remedy for my game's weird FPS hitches, thanks! I had no performance issues prior to this patch but started getting some crazy FPS drops in settlements (down to single digits, please-don't-crash levels) after. Checking PC performance would show that GPU usage plummeted to ZERO during these drops. Never had problems like this with any other game before. I bought the whole graphics card, let me use the whole graphics card.

I can only speak for myself but I think the dev team are doing an amazing job. I would like to see a lot the nay-sayers do a better job with creating such a fantastic 'game' and jumping on the inevitable bugs. I think it's glorious: I'm grateful for all the work you lot put into constantly improving and expanding - and am now standing by to be flamed by the disaffected. :D
I started working at Taco Bell, to get better chicken quesadillas'...

Well, I now understand the saying: "Better is the enemy of good" - was able to play EDO for about six days, even past update five - really like what FDev is attempting to do, even applaud the effort, but all their fixing to make a better game has finally made EDO unplayable. Much of the same stuff reported. So I would ask the CMs to tell us when everything is fixed and those fixes tested and found to work without breaking the rest of the game - tell us then it is safe to play; I'll be one of the first to give it a try, but alas, today the crashes to the desk top, the taupe cobras, the inability to sell what's in the cargo hold (Trader must empty cargo to buy move more) just makes the game not fun and absolutely unplayable. To those who can continue o7, appreciate your efforts to get us through this, but enough for me.

I cant imagin that v-sync is a prob. Will test this...

if think my setup is really enough fot EDO : i7 4790k@4.4ghz / Corsair ram 1600mhz@2000mhz / gtx1080@2000mhz , gdram@11000mhz / Samsung SSD ... i'm playing this game at 120/170 FPS in space / in ship, all setting to high or ultra on a triple screen ( 5900x1080 ), i've got 1900 hours of gameplay, and never had a single performance problems With Horizons.
With Odyssey On foot gameplay i've got : 20/25 max on conflict zone, 25/35 fps on planet and 25/30 in base station ( and believe me i tried so many things to fix that score, even playing at 1024x768!!! and i gained basically 5FPS, i tried to play in low, i tried even supersampling at 0.5 ! , kill all processes useless in W10, tried reshade, tried to modify proco affinity, lowering the shadows ( you'll gain 5fps max ) , try to modify all the settings in Nvidia panel....
I can say : it's definitely NOT a hardware issue.
Ryzen 9 3900X 12-Core Processor, 3800 Mhz, 12 Core(s), 24 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 31.9 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti fe 11GB
Resolution 3840 x 2160 x 59 hertz and i get 50 -59 FPS but i struck gold with a 309mbps connection... Bought my own cable/modem so they can not throttle it when they want to hit me up with more Data charges ..

Had seen other mention it but seeing the same no restore missions are showing, have tried over last couple days multiple stations that had been working reputation up on.

These stations had plenty of restore missions before update 5 and since have seen 0

Related to the FPS drops/freezes:

Yesterday I experienced some freezes in some cases and I had the impression that it happens when new textures are loaded. Maybe it is caused by the internal / parallel background loading of the textures. But in fact this also touches the multiple threading then.

To test this further, I set the texture size from high to medium and the problem disappeared. However, I also installed the latest driver from NVidia at the same time. Whether this had an additional influence, I can no longer separate.

I installed the latest driver yesterday. Made no difference to FPS. But am getting mountains in the distance having square patches of materials. Until you get closer and they finally render.

If I need a recovery mission, I fly to a neighboring system.
But here's what I do not understand, in the codex I have 30 hacked doors and 0 missions to restore ...

I have looked around several station where had been doing them prior to update 5,
have found 0, before there was usually in range of 5 to 15 at these location.

wondering if this is part of the issue

Fixed an issue where missions could all point to the same destinations. Now mission boards will have a maximum of one mission of each type going to any single settlement.

most of the restore missions were often several for the same location (settlement), but from the different factions and with different rewards.
as soon as you took one the others dissapeared.

Now since this change appears that its just not creating any, rather than multiple for same location (settlement).
