This is ridiculous. I've spent an hour on a planet looking for higher grade raw mats, and I'm finding geological hotspots "in the blue", but everything, the needles, the clusters, its all giving me iron, carbon, and nickel. Where's the good stuff, FDev? Seriously. This is pathetic.
How are you supposed to find higher grade raw mats? Planet hotspots only give grade 1-2!

Go back to horizons and farm the old spots like the rest of us did. We knew they'd mess this up...and we were right.
They Many Improvements and Fixed(TM) it. Now every type of shootable gives stuff according to the drop table percentages. No more being able to be selective. Nope. MORE RNG GRIND!!!!!!

At the crash site POIs you can cut into the frames with 6 canisters (on foot) and scoop 18 raw mats with the SRV (I've collected Selenium, Manganese, Zinc, Vanadium and something else from them - whichever category that is). After you've picked them up you can shoot the rack and get another 3 mats from that. If you shoot the empty frame before picking the canisters up they all disappear.
Crash sites have two of these frames, so that's 42 raw materials from each.

You can still metallic meteorites and other high quality mats bearers. You just have to seek them it out from all the noise!

I think by far most people did nothing to prepare. Farming stuff before a dlc lands is the kind of hardcore player behaviour the average player would neither think of or want to do...
In any case: poi. More fun, too, especially if there are hostiles.
There was a two week gap beween Alpha and release of Odyssey. Many people went off to farm the crystal shards sites several times - me amongst them.
I would much rather have been playing Odyssey but it wasn't out.
I made an Issue tracker report for this on Thursday and it has atleast been ackowledged https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/39844 so i am assuming it is not as intended.
