how about a cyborg horse
like with humanoid-mode on its robolegs so it can deploy out of ride mode and follow you into a settlement
give it a manticore intimidator as well so it can follow you around and help you out in a fight like an SLF pilot
to go with the plainsman suit kit
you know what I'm talking about
If I had the choice of a cyborg mount instead of an SRV I'd buy it instantly.
In all seriousness though we've been asking for SRV variants for years. Its just that up until fairly recently there wasn't really that much reason to have anything more than the Scarab as ground combat was limited to the occasional encounter with pirate skimmers at points of interest or shooting guardian/thargoid robots at their respective sites.
However now with Odyssey we see that there is some room for sidegrades.
Right now the Scarab would fulfill the exploration/science role along with the artemis suit with its good speed, good scanner, and its plasma repeater which at the moment is better suited as a mining tool and emergency self defense weapon considering how many shots it takes to even just deplete the shields of commandos at high intensity combat zones. On that note the shield is not suited for combat either as it only takes a few seconds of sustained fire from said commandos to kill you.
So, heres what we could have to fit roles alongside the dominator and maverick.
A combat SRV could be either a tank or an infantry fighting vehicle. As a purely combat vehicle its multipurpose scanner would be replaced solely with a motion/thermal detector for quickly locating and identifying hostile targets. It'd be armed with a cannon or autocannon of sorts with a coaxial machinegun/plasma repeater and a machinegun turret on top for 360 degree protection from flanking infantry. The locomotion would be provided with tracks, which makes the consequential reduction in top speed one of the balances for it. Add superior shields and armor and you're good to go.
A scavenging SRV could be a hover vehicle since one semi-common complaint is SRVs can sometines become irrreparably stuck when trying to maneuver in certain areas, commonly because the wheels have hooked around an object. Removing the wheels entirely and replacing them with skimmer repulsorlifts could perhaps add far more freedom of movement at the expense of a reduction in range, requiring either the CMDR land close to where he's scavenging or synthesize fuel more frequently. Add a somewhat larger cargo capacity as befits a salvage vehicle and you're golden.
