Reduced Tool Consumption vs Improved Battery Cap

Reduced tool consumption cuts your tool drain by 50% but since IBC gives you 50% more overall, so the part which powers your shields and air gets more mileage.

Would it be fair to say that if you had to choose one of the 2 only, taking IBC has zero disadvantage over taking Reduced Consumption?

e.g. Even if you used your tool from the moment you disembark till air runs out, reduced consumption wouldnt give you any more time than IBC.

i plan to use reduced consumption for my artemis-asassin-suit.
the energy tool takes a lot in override mode.

i would say it depends on what you want to do with the suit

Depends very much on how you’re using it. For my explorer build Reduced Tool Consumption isn’t worth it. But if I’m zappping people regularly then it’s far more use that the extra battery.

Why not both? A Maverick build with both would work, an Artemis build with both probably makes the most sense of all, and Dominator makes the least sense for reduced tool consumption, but improved battery is useful.

The reduced tool consumption is good on the Maverick, especially when you are going through a settlement without bodies to get clearance from and you have to spank all the doors to open, even if you decide to power up the whole place with an e-breach an power regulator. PSA: Don't forget your power regulator on the way out!

Quick question, is the reduced consumption only for the cutter ? I have this mod on my Maverick and it seemed that it does not affect the chargers' overcharge rate ?

So many regulators left behind alas ! New idea, never leave a settlement if the lights are on, go back for the regulator. Shut down settlement, waited, trapped and killed by commandos, lost everything. Newer idea required !

Always overload one of the doors to the power room for a hasty exit once the regulator is ready for plucking.

The mod does with overload. Normally it takes 20 energy to do it, just tested it and it only takes 10. But I know you will still need at least 20 energy in your suit to be allowed to use it.
Thank you for testing this ! I recall shutting down one of those Agri settlements with the large single building and having to use almost all the batteries in the POW section just to get out !

I was very complacent, had already prepped for exfiltration by shorting all doors to the exit including the exit door. Exit was along a long corridor and T-section, I ran into 4 commandos entering the building blocking my way out, raised shields instantly but went out fighting. Shame I had completed the mission and looted the entire place prior !
Next time I will offload the SRV to a ship and dismiss before going back for the regulator ! Could have switched to my Dominator as well I guess.

Hmmm, can I summarise it as such.

Reduced consumption, it cuts usage by half. You got 100% more cutting time.

Improved battery, you only get 50% more batt so that allows you 50% more cutting time.

Extra Backpack Capacity
Reduced Tool Battery Consumption
Improved Battery Capacity
Night Vision

Is what I'm running on my Maverick. Night Vision seems to make use of Reduced Tool Battery Consumption.

But when exploring most of my battery consumption isn’t being used by the tools, so 50% more battery is far more useful than 100% more tool use.

So many good points. I'm just starting out with the engineers, only unlocked Domino Green atm - about to haul my mats back to her workshop. Currently I'm going to leave my Artemis alone until the Battery Cap mod. I Will get Reduced Tool Use on a Maverick that came with Extra Backpack. I have another Maverick that came with Increased Battery, I'll give that Extra Backpack, test them out see which I like more.

There are plenty of Energy Cells in every settlement I've ever visited. I wouldn't waste a slot on either of these mods personally for a Maverick.

Artemis I buy with battery capacity and get Domino to add reduced tool consumption. Job done.
Mavericks will depend on the role.
A sniper can certainly do with increased battery, a work suit benefits from reduced tool consumption.

I use reduced tool use on the Maverick. Improved battery cap isn't necessary. You'll have your ship or SRV nearby and energy cells scattered around. On the Dominator I have the IBC, no tool use there, but shields up. I don't want to be frantically looking for a power outlet every two minutes in battle. The Artemis bot both. You still have your SRV or ship near, but there's simply not much else to put on an Artemis that's useful.

I find both of those mods useful on my suit, along with increased damage resistance and extra ammo capacity. But then I only have one suit, per my preference for keeping things simple.

For Suits that see heavy tool usage - for example a Maverick that does a lot of cutting, charging and overcharging, Reduced Tool Battery Usage is better than Increased battery cap.
The former will double the number of Tool usages, while the later will only increase the number of tool usages by half.

Sure, having both of them is even better, but if there is only one option, Reduced Tool Battery usage is better

I haven't done much Exobiology, but i'd say the same logic can be applied for Artemis too.
My Artemis has:
Night Vision - for obvious reasons
Improved Jump assists - i thought it may get helpful if i get into a deeper ravine
Reduced Tool Battery Usage
Increased Battery Capacity
