Oh wow there was actually an 1 hour gameplay video of SQ 42:

No, that's complete rubbish and any video you watched is surely a figment of your imagination.

For years CIG told everyone they couldn't show any video of SQ42 because of "spoilers" both before and after that imaginary video you didn't link. Therefore the video simply can't exist, because CIG wouldn't say something, then go back on that, then go back to repeating it again after going back on what they said. That would be really silly!

So ... my EDO gaming time has collapsed to zero for the last two weeks - after grinding out my suits and weapons to G4/G5 levels and seeing the total failure of the future roadmap for EDO - ie there isn't one - I decided to dip my toes back into SC . I Supported both ED and SC on the original releases/kickstarters but SC has just been too painful to play for so long that I had given up on it . EDO prompted me to try again ....and lol He did see the light . SC 3.13 is / has been as stable as a rock for me with better FPS than EDO and better graphics - and I found that I was thoroughly enjoying myself . My Warthog HOTAS setup is smooth and I am pretty happy with the flight model . Now the game play is pretty limited and trading is not really a good money maker right now - but the whole experience as been an eye-opener as to what is possible in a Space Simulator game . I have popped back into EDO for 30 minutes to move some money around and the whole thing feels lifeless by comparison .

So if EDO is... what it currently is, and opinions on SC are split, what else is there?

EVE adverts are getting spammed to me hard on Youtub, i love the "actual gameplay" which shows lots of ships flying about and space battles, and not a single spreadsheet.
EverSpace 2 is more arcadey.
NMS ditto (i quite like base building in it though).
X4 - i've never been into the galaxy stuff, a bit like EVE, but can one be a cmdr-in-a-Cobra only?

SC seems to tick most of the boxes, in theory, which Elite isn't.
Caveats of being alpha, crashy and buggy, obviously..

I wouldn't go as far as suggesting it ticks any boxes at all if comparing it to EDO. It's a completely different animal...it can certainly be engaging and enjoyable but with the sheer amount of bugs, dodgy physics and server instability present in Star Citizen, it very quickly loses anything it gains. There are very few gameplay loops, working or not, outside of mining or bounty hunting...the ships are nice, planets are nice, ship interiors are nice too. Gameplay is simply what you can eak out of the few working and implemented parts of it there are.

I play regularly and have done for a few years...I continue to enjoy it... in between resting my head wearily on the keyboard after one of the many random server errors, quirky bugs or being pad rammed into virtual poverty for the third time in 30 minutes :)

If you want a genuinely unbiased and remarkably fresh look at what SC has to offer for a relative newbie coming in from the world of Elite, check out Kate Byrne's series of SC videos on YouTube.

I thought it was just cinematic trailers. Did players sliced and diced this video, and anlysied it somewhere under microscope? Or what this what was removed and remade?

I doubt anything is ever coming. The whales can't keep the boat afloat, we know this from Calder funding being required. The recent flurry of free-flies, sales and trotting out the Roberts family does not seem like confidence to me. And now he's fleeing the country moving to the UK. Yeah, maybe I'm just cynical. ;)

If SC ticks the right boxes for you, then that's great. Just make sure you know what you are getting into.

Remember those boxes also contain:

Many bugs
Eternal alpha
Poor optimization
50 player limited servers
A company that happily lies to backers to keep funding going
Macrotransactions
P2W
A roadmap that constantly gets items dropped from it/pushed back
Only 1 star system
... and quite a lot of other not to good boxes

If the good boxes outweigh the bad for you, then you might want to get a starter package. But i recommend trying a free fly before giving CIG any money.

With all the money CIG is raking in from Elite refugees, they are good for another decade.

I would have thought so too, however funding appears to be lower than the average not-during-a-sale daily funding levels (~$90k)

Meanwhile the community-ran crowdfunding spreadsheet doesn't show a notable uptick in new accounts either, nor has the Reddit seen a respective uptick in subscriber-gain.

Wow that was an impressive video. I can't believe it runs so good on 1060 card inside the city. I thought it would be a slideshow.
Kate optimised her PC for SC after being given tips and advice from veteran SC players both in game and in the video comments section. It might not seem a lot, but you can visibly see the improvement from her first video the the last.
