Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 5

So I agree with many who have determined that Update 5 performance at settlements has been a step back. In a non-deterministic test the Frame Rate for my Rig averages about 25 FPS while at settlements in Odyssey (always display my FPS via Steam). That is down from 35 FPS. Again, no concrete examples just a general observation. If I have time I'll get some screen shots and run some better tests.

Just want to say that reinstall of my gpu drivers as a new and validation of game files quite visibly reduced problems I had after update 5. It have its own load of problems like faulty missions which previously worked but I see more improvements too. One from things which Im really grateful is that amd fidelity function which makes hud and other texts in game much better readable.

Just (if you have nVidia) disable (for the game) the shader cache -- game is forced to recalculate that for everytime, but the performance is kinda better.

For unavoidable reasons, I had to downgrade my GPU to a gtx1050ti. I'm trying to find which graphic options make the most difference to FPS. So far, improvements are minimal making the options screen a little meaningless.

What options give the biggest FPS increase?

Something that I have noticed is when you power on a settlement the fps takes a massive hit and stuttering is very much noticed. I took a mission to kill scavs and while killing the scavs my fps was close to 60fps average, after killing them I used a Power reg I had to power on the system so I could loot the settlement. Soon as I used the power on terminal the fps tanks to the 20's and stuttering. I collected all the loot and then powered down the settlement to get my regulator back but the stuttering and low fps was still there. Making driving the SRV back to my ship almost impossible.

This needs looking into because the only reason to go to settlements is for the Odyssey DLC, if we can't do that then it renders a large part of Odyssey unplayable.

*Additional info edit
I just did a mission to restore power and the settlement was not on fire the fps in this situation was not as bad as was playable, so it would seem that the fires/reflections/water seem to have a major performance impact. The combination of all three having the most impact, it seems when you power on the settlement the reflections of the fire and the lights coming on is just killing the performance.

Sorry you have had to downgrade, i hope you have identified "pathways" to a future upgrade.

The only setting that made any difference to my FPS is the super sampling dropping it from 1.00 to 0.85 helped a little or 0.75 and closing my eyes helped more.

It's starting to be a bit frustrating flying out there. First my Cobra MK IV is running low on power. I can't use remote workshop because i get a "Server Error" msg. Reported it to issue tracker.
Second, my reps keeps going down because planetary crash or impact missions basically don't work. The mission targets are not visible. But at some point I have managed to complete those mission, but that is at hours where not many players are on. So is this some overloaded server issues?

I still struggle to understand how people read "not at launch" as "soon after launch!". It's three incredibly simple words, forming a message that literally means what it says.

"There will be no chicken in the main course."
"Cool, chicken for dessert!"

Like, wut?

The trouble is they write it as a qualifier. "There will be no VR on foot in Odyssey." - is unambiguous - but adding the qualifier "at launch" - makes a big hole for misinterpretation, and wishful thinking of course. (Not me, ah dinna dae VR Jimmy) ;)

Not at launch means not immediately, but soon after. The timescale is vague but eventual delivery is certain (much like SoonTM). Naturally this leads to people chasing up clarification on 'Okay when?'.

Importantly, it's not a 'No' or 'not as part of Odyssey'.

hth.

Not at launch is far too open ended, even if formally clear, does nothing for me I’m afraid.

But that is part of the message. It means "not now, no info on the future.". If they had plans to do it they could say it. If they had decided not to do it they could say it. They said neither because it's neither planned nor definitively cancelled.

While, as a VR player, I would like to know more I see no reason to fill in the uncertainty with my own guesses and pretend they are promises.

I still struggle to understand how people defend "not at launch" happened "not at all" and they have no problem with it
"pay for the broth we'll serve you tomorrow, but today we have no chickens"
"sorry dude no chickens at all, enjoy your water with vegetables"
