Odyssey on Last-Gen Consoles - Bargain Basement price time?

FDev is trying to get a product to a shrinking market. For every month that goes by until Odyssey releases on XBox 1 and PS4 there will be fewer of those old systems and more of the current-gen. FDev should not expect to sell Odyssey on last-gen for PC/Current Gen console price point, because if I were the owner of a XsX or PS5 looking at Odyssey in a backwards compatible state that does not make full use of my new system's capabilities, I'd be all "why am I spending big boy dollars on this old tech?" Fewer PS4/XBox 1 customers and price sensitive PS5/XsX mean that Odyssey should have a price point of maybe 20$.

It won't matter to me what price point EDO launches at on console, I will not be purchasing it.

My decision is not based on issues it has been plagued with since launch or any level of negatively that the community is suffering through.

I am simply not thrilled by what EDO has to offer and don't see how it will add to the core of the experience for me.

I do hope that there will be many other console Cmdrs who will but it and enjoy it.

I would still wager that PS4s in the wild vastly outnumber PS5s. Also, PS5 will still play PS4 games with backwards compatibility no problem.

Signed, bloke who's been trying to get a PS5 in the midst of a chip shortage for the last six months with absolutely zero luck.
How could you do this? We had a perfectly good thread of speculation and argument ahead of us! Maybe even some personal attacks on Braben and the CM team thrown in...

Nope. "In terms of engagement, which is an increasingly important metric for console makers, PS5 has got off to a strong start. Sony says that PS5 had 8.6 million monthly active users in March 2021, vs 7.1 million for PS4." https://www.gamesindustry.biz/artic...s-over-50-percent-of-the-games-console-market
Yep, in the article you shared, you snipped off the rest of that sentence which is "The reason the PS5 active user number is higher than the install base figure is due to multiple unique PS5 accounts on a single device."

Currently there are something like 120 million PS4 consoles sold, compared to 9 million PS5. Which makes just a tiny bit of sense given that one was released 8 months ago (and is experiencing inventory shortages from day one) and the other was released 8 YEARS ago.

I mean, c'mon...
