Big Elite Streamers Giving Up On Streaming Elite?

Maintenance mode doesn't have any patches, let alone new features like what was added in those four medium-sized updates.

Just because you don't like what those updates added, doesn't mean that they didn't exist.

"But they don't need to make an announcement or statement to just... quietly stop development. After all, they did that for the 2 years leading up to the Odyssey release, while the issue tracker was ignored" is objectively wrong.

Erm, I do believe that Interstellar Initiatives didn't last very long. In the here and now, it doesn't mean much.

Yep. I think the CMs and FD are finally finding out what happens when patience runs out.
Especially when you watch a stream like from Drew Wagar, trying out NMS for the first time, knowing nothing about it before. That are 2.5 hours of eye-opening moments, when it comes to planetary exploration, fauna, flora, minerals, metals, terraformable terrain, basic base building - all within 2.5 hours without any grind or stress at all. I really encourage you to watch it, even it's 2.5 hours long - it will give you an idea, why so many are loosing patience with FDev very quickly.

And for the CMs, maybe you should watch it as well - that you have an idea, how to communicate to FDev, that they have to do a lot more, if they still want a healthy player base in Elite - with what there is and eventually will be in EDO, that is not nearly enough and cannot compete anymore.

Although NMS is really a different game, it does highlight the speeds the two companies have taken over things. I would expect Drew to be happy if FD just filled in the game we had, and made it match to the lore.

I think it's a given that Mr Wagar won't be asked to write any more Elite lore.

it's different - but it's filled with content, I still dislike it's too vibrant color scheme, but then again, after a while one doesn't recognize it that much anymore. i like game elements like crafting, base building and exploration -exploration where actually there is something to find and figure out - that is something i really miss in ED - it's exploration is poking around on planets with pretty much nothing on them - finding something interesting is like finding a needle in a hay stack - whereas NMS has something interesting everywhere.

But thats what I mean- NMS is a crappy space game bolted onto a really sweet survival / exploration game. ED is not about exploration, classically its about surviving and becoming a hot shot pilot.

If you're on PC, the colour scheme can be toned down a bit with Reshade patches... of which there are rather a lot so I won't link them. You'll know where to look (Nexus).

I think the graphics in Prisms (latest update) are a step up, also. But it's always going to have that '50s pulp Scifi vibe that folk call "cartoony".

I did watch it.. even left him well wishes in the game and went back to mining in elite. and have nms loaded on my pc with about 12 hrs play time compared to 900 hrs of elite on pc and I have played elite on ps4 since launch I still fail to see how people playing other games at times spell trouble for Elite

i will most likely get used to it - subnautica, another game I really like has as well quite vibrant colors. in the end i want content to play with, explore, craft stuff and bases and have a feeling of progression. In Elite I don't get this in the amount I'm expecting it - I might still buy EDO next year, if it would be finally done, so I'm not completely out of the door for now, but i expect FDev to come up with a serious vision for the game and plan how to realize it - otherwise no deal.

And this is what I wish FD would do- decide what ED is and sharpen it to the max. Throwing features and seeing what stick is a failed strategy, they really need to find a direction.

Well, the type playing just one game and nothing else is rare anyway. There are too many good games out there to just focus on one. The thing is, I have 700 hrs in EDH on my clock, and i really wonder why I have played it for so long at all - maybe because I really tried hard to love it - but I just can't, not even after 700 hrs - because most of that time is likely to be flight in supercruise. There is nothing worth remembering from playing Elite - it's mostly forgettable repetitive game play.

without any grind
Sorry, but Iol :ROFLMAO:

NMS is one of the most grindy games I played, especially when it comes to ship refuelling on Survival mode. What's worse, this grind is mandatory until end game.

You can alleviate that with mods, fair enough, but still.

I actually visited Drew's live stream and I entered EXACTLY in the moment when he was.... complaining about that very grind to fly your ship anywhere :)

Ferrite dust :D

The videos Yamiks made were about ED:O so that's the relevant context here.
So, you jumped in on a comment...
Here is the 'conversation' that preceded your interjection:
It's ironic because yamicks was refused the Odyssey key, and treated like trash by everyone for being "negative". And he is still there, while people who were gifted a free key and a box full of goodies, even a station, have diminished their amount of content about ED, or even left.

Yamicks have said multiple time that Odyssey FPS doesn't hold a candle compared to others FPS.That's not what interest him in ED.
Contrary to what most people think, he actually love Elite.
He was abusive towards them, not "negative". They politely said no thanks when he asked for a freebie, a freebie that he didn't need, just like OA and others who had bought it themselves.

And he then created the drama and got the clicks.

It was a fine effort.
Lol what ? He was refused the key. Fdev said he was not doing "constructive feedback" or something. OA and other had one for free, which is standard in the industry BTW.
They also had a station and a box full of goodies.

And anyway, it's still very ironic that he is still there, while a lot of the others have jumped ship or greatly diminished their coverage for elite.
The impression was that his presentation style and use of profanities (among other theatrical devices) were the principal reason why Frontier might not wish to be interpreted as being supportive of.

Well, as one of his viewers bought the key for him, he probably feels obliged to give £40 (or local equivalent) of value back...

It may also be, that despite the 'image' and ranting, that he really likes ED ;)
Nothing to do with Odyssey videos, your apology is accepted.

Which mode was Drew playing in NMS? Creator?

but this is what a survival game is all about - that is why I'm playing it, because of it's micromanagement and the aspect of permanent struggle - this is not grind in my books, but desirable game play.

no, i think it was normal - he had to find oxygen and sodium to support himself and had to unlock crafting, repair his ship and fuel it and so on.
Nice!
Which proves, rather well, that NMS recognised the 'grind' well enough, when I first started playing it, managing inventory was very much a juggling act!

Well done Drew (y)
