Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

At least we got the VOIP almost working :)
Just about... Great to check the comms out and say hello. I'll need to do more fiddling and find a button to bind which doesnt clash.

Had a great moment flying back to Everus Harbour  Approaching from the shadow-side it was shrouded in darkness, but the numerous lights glinting. As i get closer the sun comes up and illuminates everything, call in ATC for docking, i swoop sun with SC's pseudo FAoff and (gracefully) plop onto the pad.
The engines whirring away, the changes in lighting, and nostalgic feels of that returning to base after a successful outing, were hitting all those same Elite vibes.

Hit a lot more bugs too. It took me three goes to do the bounty hunting starter mission: first i failed because newbie, like i didnt realise about the speed limiter nor targeting properly, but also hits didnt seem to register; second go crashed to desktop; third i killed both target and wingman and it didnt register as complete.
Everything is starting to feel more comfortable though, so less about learning the controls and oddities (eg: have to be in pilot chair to repair). Like the way Quantum Travel works, but selecting destinations is a bit annoying and finerky vs say picking off a text-list of local POIs.

Still far better than i feared SC would be. It almost feels like a real game!

The map you use for navigation in SC (F2) is horrible, i hate it, the one in ED is much better, a simple 2D text screen would be much better, i wish it was that.

It also doesn't work properly half the time, a couple of tips with it, if your destination is obscured by something it will not lock that destination in, if exiting atmosphere get to a higher altitude or if you're already in space find your nearest Orbital Marker (OM 1 /2 /3.....) without using the map, so just press B and find it in your space HUD, jump to it and try again.

@Mole HD too big to sit on the dash, might have to go on the centre console, shame.
It squeaks, drop it on the floor it squeaks as its bouncing.

BTW, notice how smooth that is, at 4K? unless you have an RTX 3090 you're not getting it that smooth at 4K.

Mine at 1440P with an RTX 2070 Super.

A bit of a maze, isn't it? Took me nearly an hour to find any shops...I found the plushie stall pretty quick though, got myself a stuffed spacewhale to stick in the ship. I was disappointed it didn't look like Jorunn though

There's different sizes of stuffed spacewhale, different colours too.... A stuffed spacewhale to suit every aesthetic and every ship, can even find one to match your armour...or the colour of your bleeding eyeballs after suffering 10fps for an hour 😵

Turn Volumetric Clouds to high or even medium :) i have it on high, its playable at 1440P.

Refunds are having a laugh over this one. Worth sharing here.

Summary: Backer suggests that even in the most optimistic scenario CIG will need 1.2 billion and 7.5 years to deliver all the major cities SC requires.

Naturally the replies are quite predictable ranging from disparaging the poster to reuse of assets will make things quicker to disavowing the dev who said that Orison took as long to make as a AAA game.

I'm sure those same people were hyping up that statement by the dev regarding Orison just a few days ago, but now its being used against SC, now he's just a dev who doesn't know what he's talking about. They also seem to forget Holy Roberts won't settle for reusing assets. The man sent back for rework the fashion for NPCs on just one moon! He'll never accept whole systems with copy/paste architecture. The faithful sometimes forget what they have given CR carte blanche to do and forget they said CR can take as long as he wants to get it right! But faced with the possibility that things might actually take so long, they get all defensive!

We've had similar discussions here before relating to how long it will take for CIG to deliver all the required planets/systems. Forget about the money required, even if they could poop out a new system every 2 months, that's still 18 years!

Let me just repeat that:

even if they could poop out a new system every 2 months, that's still 18 years!

But i think most of us will agree, with Fidelity Roberts in charge, not to mention the velocity of SC's development, even 2 systems a year seems highly optimistic, which would give us 55 years!

Is it any wonder some backers are walking back their expectations regarding the number of systems?

Orison isn't bad for me to be fair, roughly in the 20's to low 30's for most of it, some bits are almost a slideshow in the low teens...usually near the habs for some reason. Clouds set to high...

Erm, don't you have a pretty decent graphics card? Because 20-30 FPS is abysmal in a twitch based game.

I can only imagine i'd have to be counting in SPF (seconds per frame) there!

They need to get to more than the one system first. Baby steps, early stages of development, pipelines full of $$ etc etc etc.

I have the same graphics card as Intrepid...RTX 2070 super. I've got 2 of them on an SLi bridge...but that counts for nowt. His CPU is a good bit more capable than mine, he's on a R7-5800x I think. I'm running an R7-3700x, even though I've OC'd mine to 3900mhz....both of us have 32Gb of RAM as far as I know, since I took my extra but older and slower 32Gb of 2100mhz RAM out to run the new MB and CPU on the faster 32Gb of 3300mhz RAM I had mixed it with on the old setup. I didn't really need 64Gb of RAM anyway....even for SC...and yes, it's on an NVME drive :D I don't have any old spinner drives left...4Tb of NVME/m.2 (1 x 2Tb of each) and 8Tb (4 x 2Tb) worth of SATA SSD's.

It's only (stretching the imagination a bit) a twitch based game if you feel some desperate need to play it like that...I fly cargo ships, do a bit of mining and occasionally shoot NPC pirate ships for bounties if I'm bored where the persistent network lag and desync are the issues, not fps....besides, anywhere outside of Orison... or any of the main spawning/landing areas... I'm 40-60fps quite comfortably. Remember, I played ED and twitch shooters like Battlefield on the Xbox at a fixed 30fps if we were lucky. Anything faster than I can draw pictures on the monitor with crayons looks pretty good to me.

Seriously though, anyone hoping to play SC as a twitch shooter needs a slap, it's pretty shyte...which is also common knowledge, the servers are abysmal. If I want a twitch shooter, I play BF4 and 5 like everyone else ;)
