It would appear that the console release will be delayed beyond Autumn 2021

Incompetence. And people continue with the "...it's for the best" like it's the first time. Some of you guys are very complacent about being second rate.
Considering the way consoles have gone since oddyysey release on pc I'm absolutely fine with being second rate as long as we get bug patches but probably won't. It's OK though because according to fdev oddyysey shouldn't of affected consoles but we can be out BGsed on oddyysey compared to fighting horizons players

For myself not really that surprised or that miffed that its been delayed and that Pc players are again the priority there's only so much they can do, its more the fact on the Tuesday stream last week when asked about consoles it was the usual (as has been for months) "Console release on track for Autumn release". Surely would have had an inkling at that point what was going on just don't like the dishonesty especially after commitment to be more up front......

lol, my bad!

and to be honest, quite a few of the master race would blame consoles for anything that effects them, rational or not. Trying to argue with them is a fruitless endeavour. And of course they're not representative of the PC player base.
YUP
Those guys have really shown their colors through all this. They really don't care what the impact is to console players or how many broken promises there have been regarding release parity.

Just as long as they get their releases. They'll point to the kickstarter stuff and the promises FDev made them as if none of the Xbox players bought into a glitchy Preview or were ever promised anything by FDev either.

Console players have been the redheaded step child since Mac support was cut loose.

I've been keeping the bar low for awhile, so low in fact, that I don't expect we'll ever see it on consoles. I still love the flight model, the combat, and above all, the people I've met over the past five years.

Whether we get legs or not, I'll probably stick around for the people at least. I can walk around and shoot stuff in plenty of games that do that sort of thing better, but I can't fly a ship like this anywhere else.

*laughs in Star Citizen!
THAT'S THE OTHER THING..

People like to be all "YEAH, but SC is a scam that's still in Alpha and will prolly never be released"

Oh yeah, Buddy? What do you think it's called when ED takes your money and doesn't launch a solid build for 18 months?

FDev isn't any better than Star Citizen here. Only difference is SC is actually delivering space ship and space leg content.

People that complain about SC don't understand what they are attempting to do. We should keep the discussion here relevant to Elite and sadly for console players there just isn't much to discuss... unless you're a console player that wants to express your disappointment.

P.S. I would like to add that the truly disgusting thing about this Odyssey ordeal regardless what platform you play on is this: After the miserable April and September updates in 2019 Frontier issued a statement saying and I will paraphrase, that they realize they needed to do better and they were actively looking at the way they handled things and were going to make changes including bringing back betas. Its hard to guess what changes they made as the end result seems the same as ever.
YUP to ALL of this.

But that's also why Bongo was on the cross post to the Xbox forum so fast. Better to have one thread for us a funnel all our anger into than a hundred.

Good boy, Bongo.

...in my profession we've worked double-duty through the pandemic, and as a result my company has provided a "stipend" (money to keep me from looking to work somewhere else.) It's enough to pay for a gaming PC. So I am being strongly tempted by all the hype, the screenshots, and the videos. I'm really tempted to move from console where I can play a proper space sim with "space legs."

I really think I'm about to get into the "drawing" for an RTX 3080, find a monitor, find a new HOTAS, and buy the other parts to build the PC, to become one of the master race... to have a worthwhile gaming PC.

...and then I'll install Star Citizen.

The irony is … I couldn’t give two hoots about legs … but I haven’t played for a month because of connection issues and crashes when running the PS4 version in backwards compatibility mode on PS5 and the longer they spend “fixing” this ridiculous foray into mediocre FPS gameplay the longer it will be before any improvements (graphics or content) makes it to consoles.

If its any consolation, its probably not but, the PS5 hard crashing Elite to the desktop has not been fixed since the PS5 was launched (so its months and months of an actual game breaking bug, although it looks like a terrible bug to troubleshoot especially when working from home. I have no idea what access they have to PS5 dev kits or if they are even looking to fix it, or acknowledge it).

I think FDev's priority is elsewhere, see OP.
I’ve not experienced that bug yet, that said I’ve only had my PS5 for about 3 weeks.

I'm actually loving the "Consoles are negatively affecting development anyway, they should just focus on PC" posts.

This is what ultimately happens when you fracture your platforms instead of unifying them.
Honestly no that's just PC players. Don't get me wrong. I criticize fdev all day long, and I wouldn't hesitate to throw them under the bus in this this case too but there is not one single gaming franchise that isnt infected by this insufferable superiority complex.

The game is clearly in a pretty bad place on PC. I was watching CMDR Plater earlier and he was getting sometimes sub 15fps in ground CZs on a really pretty good PC, that is worse than pretty much every console game I have played in the last PS4 generation. (I am sure there are some terrible games there but, not that I've played, I think even CP2077 on PS4 runs at more than 15fps, especially now after many patches).

If it can be fixed on PC, and then ported over to consoles that's ultimately go to be better for console players in the long run.

I obviously have no idea if console players will be thrown under the bus later....
That's also streaming, gonna say this as a PC player who has a PC that meets the recommended (aside from my RAM being slower) I get an average of 30 to 35 FPS on Ultra if I'm not recording on the ground, I go below 30 if I'm recording. If he wasn't recording/streaming he would be in the mid to high 30's.

Yeh I didn't get it either when I first started. It's very dependent where you play and what you are doing.

The consensus seems to be it's busy systems with Players and / or Fleet Carriers and potentially when Carriers are jumping.

There is a bug report about it.

Back on topic about the announcement. David could have actually delivered some good news with the bad by announcing that the XS and PS5 were indeed going to be natively supported with Odyssey.

The fact he didn't give us any real glimmer of hope on that front is disappointing.
