First mission done, just deliver some boxes, pity Area 18 bugged out in the end, hanger door was closed and then some stupid autopilot takeover thingy smacked me into the building boom, at least I didn't lose anything.

The hangars are a left over from one of the initial ideas behind SC before the ships became actually flyable, I don't think it's functional in the latest patches since very few if anybody at all ever actually ever went in to visit their hangar. The plan for them was to make them a home base in game where you could view, maintain or rearm your ship...the idea fell flat due to how SC's design ideas changed and although the hangars are included in a ship package, they no longer function.

Ok so I had to dive into this. And yep, they sold hangar upgrades in the store:

And were still doing so by at least March 2019. At some point since then access became based on ship purchase alone.

And that’s without mentioning all the fish tank subscriber flair, polls about decoration and expansion, and claims of it becoming a networked social hub etc.

Will they ever come good on their claim of an actual in-game application? Or is it just another primarily cosmetic, heavily monetised, daydream ;)
 
I quite like SCs flight model :unsure:

TBF i was never a serious FAoff-er in Elite, mostly to enhance turns or some reverski, it doesnt really help ratting so just not a required skill, but yeah i can do basic drifting aorund a station say. I think of SC as "assisted FAoff", lets me drift into a landing pad, or boost away from a station but still spin 180 and enjoy the view as i depart. So fine for what i need, and arguably better than Elite as a casul.


Question: anyone know where to buy suppressors for personal guns?
The wikis say Nyx system, but i dont think i can go there / depreciated map, so it'd be good to know where one get them in current live.
Yeah, I never got why ED had to disable all assists in FAoff. Any other game leaves pitch, roll, yaw on. Apart from DCS maybe. But that is more detailed sim abyway.

Just guessing, but you're trying to make some sort of obscure point about something unrelated to SC?
 
Its just to illustrate your perfect and valid point about SC. Real-life examples speak for themselves and help to understand the idea, right ?

I don't see anything in those posts about hype cycles though, letting the players dream. It was just a perfectly reasonable suggestion about DX12/Vulkan, which makes sense for any game going forward.

That's why i don't get what you are aiming at. The dev didn't even hype anything, they just said it made sense... well, yeah.
 
Strangely, we only hear about the "subjective" aspect of FM when someone say that the FM is good. Never heard your comment each time someone said the FM was utter crap here 🙄

LTNTDan's on a bit of crusade to prove all SC criticism as overblown. I'm merely pegging him back when he gets a bit silly. Like claiming one guy's enjoyment of the flight model over-rules any other contrary opinion. That's clearly daft.

The SC flight model has received a lot of generic criticism for being 'noclip' for many years because... it had an obvious weightless quality, with seemingly zero-momentum for stop-starts etc. Those crits were pretty demonstrable, if prone to trope-y-ness. But since the vehicle team has had a few big passes on it it seems to have improved in some of those areas, so the noclip crit has lessened a bit. (Although it's still funny when ships blow away in the wind ;))

On personal takes, I never pushback when others describe their experience of momentum within the larger ships or enjoyment of the flight model or whatever. Because that is all cool and good. And I'd also never push back if someone said they hated the feel of the flight model. Because that's their personal take too.

If they were to peg a silly claim to their preference, like: "Turrets in space > planes in space = FACT". Then maybe, yeah ;)

Fans daydream about miracle techs all the time. What's more dubious is when developers promise them ;)

IE this quote which you used. It does not promise Jesus tech.

A bit late in the day to be having a thread based existential crisis isn't it, or is this a poor attempt at cancel culture?
This is thread No. 12 (previous iterations I think were limited to 600 pages).

You should stick around, as there are more bone fide game devs on here compared to most other forums/threads, which provide a good perspective on all things Star Citizen...
