Odyssey Going Forwards

I was more impressed by his sports-team analogy. Personally I give a damn about a (financial) apology or a blant excuse-thread. I'm so dedicated to Elite that I even don't waste one thought about going to NMS or SC. I just shelf the whole genre for the time being. For me Elite is not "just another game". It's an experience, especially in VR, but who am I talking with about VR anyways. ;)

I just want to see things fixed! Words were shared enough! Let actions talk! Nothing more, nothing less.

Just as an aside and an FYI, NMS fully supports VR, and the experience is very very good.

Thanks for the suggestion! I appreciate it. There is just one thing I can't get over with. The graphics style of NMS. There's a "history" with "schrooms" you know. :sneaky: 🤪

The graphics style is vastly overstated (cartoony it ain't), but each to their own. I love the Heinlein scifi look myself. After a short while of playing, it doesn't even figure, because it looks so damn good. Some of the views are stunning. But I digress... as you were...

To be honest, I DID made a glance on NMS. But didn't purchased it, because of financial challenges. Right now it's not in my book, because of summertime and temperatures are going through the roof here. So no VR for me, unless I want to melt like an icecream in an oven.🥵

NMS launch was buggy, yes But they immediately went into dark mode and hammered those out pretty quickly. They've been pounding out the content as fast as they can. And by the time it launched on Xbox it had everything that was promised, plus some. And they've continued to update the game, adding new content, new gameplay loops, new story, all without asking for a dime or selling ship skins and face tattoos.
It was buggy on Xbox as well, hence why I stopped playing it.
Got released 9th of August 2016 to PC/PS4 and to Xbox July 2018, they first got it properly fixet up in recent time after it was labeled as a disaster on Steam.
So they where pretty reactive as well, your comparing the wrong game studios.

The minimum specs for NMS were so off that I couldn't even launch the game at all while meeting them. How about 0FPS for poor performance? :) And they needed roughly two years to get most of the launch promises in. Yet, because they eventually delivered gamers look back on it with milder views. Likewise, if FD gets their stuff together, fixes it and has a solid console launch people will look back on the pc launch as a minor hitch and no big deal.

Gamers have poor memory when it comes to this, are often prone to overly dramatic hyperbole but in the end tend to be predictable: have a good product and they will buy&play no matter what they said earlier.

You've made a statement that says one thing and then immediately thrown up grounds to doubt it - buying a PC doesn't mean you're automatically getting a top of the line brand new gaming system - it's more likely they're getting a second hand box to start with.

I'm extremely grateful to the Unknown Worlds (Natural Selection 2, Subnautica) team and my fellow playtesters who all chipped in to buy me my current PC when my old computer was too slow to allow me to continue playtesting. It's relatively tired now with a GTX670 GPU, or I would likely still be on a triple core Phenom processor machines with an Etch A Sketch GFX card, but I'm not in a position any time soon to replace any of the components to improve it.
The kids gave me a new PC for Father's Day. I must have done something right, but I'm not sure what. ;)

You say that like no one remembers what a dishonest clustermess of a launch NMS was. I would say most DO remember that.
I give credit where it is due for the huge amount of work out into fixing it (and it continues all for free). Make no mistake tho it hurt HG financially. I refused to buy it because of how bad it was and a good few of my mates refunded in disgust. Now I DID buy it eventually and added it to the pile of barely played shame and no regrets... But I paid £15 instead of what.... £40 from memory. That is £25 lost just from me . I know countless (Ok hyperbole... On thinking about it 3 ) others did the same and a few have never bothered since even tho it's worth owning now imo , so not only have they worked the asses off to make it upto (and beyond) what they initially promised , they objectively made less money doing so compared to of they had delayed and launched better to begin with.

At a guess if they had launched 6 months later it would have been closer to the pitch and then all the stuff which came later, base building, monster riding , vr etc could have even been a paid expansion too.

But I am just guessing.
NMS is imo the poster boy for bad game come good but it still has made less than it could have.

Of course elite D WAS delayed. Partly for covid I am sure but given every expansion has been delayed this far I think they are using it partially as an excuse. I can't prove it but I fully believe it would have been delayed anyway.
So FD managed both a huge delay between horizons and odyssey AND a dumpster fire release

Say what you like but something somewhere has to have gone wrong with development.

Why shouldn't you?
This isn't the type of statement you can really go back on. Do you think they'll change tack and focus on console now and leave PC behind? Not likely is it?

Be skeptical not cynical.
why should i believe them when this happened with fleet carriers, horizons at the start, engineers , multi crew , cqc . nearly every addition has had problems and still has bugs .why should i beleive them that this time .... they will fix it

I'm not talking about 'vague statements'.

You can play E: D offline DRM-free without connecting to a server.
The DDF will have a role post release.
The Founders of the Elite are special and will receive special missions.
We don't want to do "Call of Duty" in space.
You will (in time) be able to get up and walk around your ship.
You will see cargo being loaded and unloaded onto your ship.
You'll be able to enter other people's ships and maybe steal them.

Just some of the things that FDev have unequivocally stated in the past - no subtext, nothing unsaid. Just things they told us that turned out to be untrue, but were said in order to obtain money. 🤷‍♀️

Yeah, I hear you. I bought a Quest 2 about three weeks ago, and it's had barely any use yet. But I do recommend it - especially if you can pick it up on a Steam sale. The game is usually discounted (up to 50% off) then.

If by some miracle it isn't a typical Bethesda release, you'll just have to save up and join the PC master race. 😅

X4: Foundations, No Man's Sky, Star Citizen, Evechron Legacy, Space Engineers... to name a few anyway. 🤷‍♀️
I'm still put off by my lack of PC finesse, but I have been considering an XBsX. I really dont want to restart my ED progress though 😒. I'm hoping Starfield will do justice to replace ED for me. I'll still have ps4 until it gives up on me
